In an announcement made today, the ABT Sportsline team, one of the most successful Formula E teams, has confirmed its return to the Formula E championship after a year's hiatus for season 8.
The team returns as a customer team, without the Audi powertrain it has become accustomed to in their previous years in the championship. The supplier for this powertrain is currently unconfirmed, but an announcement regarding the finalised deal will be made soon.
Becoming season nine’s 12th team translates to a bigger grid next year, returning to what it was before the team's departure. This would mean that more drivers could potentially drive in a front-running team again, and thus making the Formula E “silly” season (i.e the many rumours that plagued this season) even more complex than it was before, following the departure of the Mercedes team which is rumoured to be sold to McLaren for next season.
