Knockhill BTCC Race Weekend Preview

Updated: Aug 20, 2023

The British Touring Car Championship heads to Knockhill this weekend after a 6 week summer break. The last round at Croft provided some great racing with Daniel Lloyd taking two out of the three possible race wins, and Gordon Shedden winning the third race.

Knockhill Racing Circuit is a 1.27 mile circuit making it one of the shortest on the calendar. It has 8 corners, 5 of which are right and 3 are left. It has high kerbs that launch the cars onto two wheels which can make for some excellent racing for drivers and audiences. It makes for a tough challenge for the engineers as they have to get the car setup perfect to give the drivers the best chance at getting some all important points in Sunday's races.

The best overtaking spots are into Taylor’s Hairpin where the drivers will be trying to get a run out of Hislop’s and out-dragging the driver in front to have the inside line for the hairpin and a smooth drive out. The other overtaking spot is the first corner, Duffus Dip. The drivers will have to have power and confidence if they want to make an overtake there but it is possible and has been done many times before.

This track is usually a track which Colin Turkington dominates, but with the regulation changes this year proving difficult for some teams and others being able to maximise their hybrid boost, it’s all to play for this weekend.

The championship standings are also very close as we go into rounds 16, 17, and 18. Tom Ingram has 195 points giving him a slim three point lead over Josh Cook who had 192 points heading into the weekend. However, the favourite will be the driver in third, Colin Turkington who has 183 points, meaning he is only 12 points behind.

Who will take the win this weekend? Tune in on ITV4 at 11:53 to find out who will win Round 16. Round 17 is on at 14:15 and round 18 is on at 17:10.
