Women have played an influential role throughout the history of motor racing. Many have taken to the wheels of motorsport machines, while numerous figures have worked tirelessly on the sidelines in various roles, shaping the racing world to the present day. Woman Spotlight Wednesday aims to take a look at the tales of these superwomen, who have surpassed various hurdles to reach where they are today.

Today’s piece dives into a stateside story, with a young American living the dream, making her way onto the highly-touted Road to Indy.

Lindsay Brewer is a talented racing driver, currently competing in the 2023 USF Pro 2000 Championship for Exclusive Autosport, formerly known as the Road to Indy. Brewer is undoubtedly talented, and on the right road to reach the top category of the Road to Indy.

When she was just 11, she went to a birthday party at a go-kart track. Young Lindsay ended up being faster than all the boys and adults there, a feat that awakened her love for speed and winning.

The American responded to the call of the racing world, and made a name for herself at karting championships all across the United States. She then took a four-year hiatus from racing to pursue her higher education at San Diego State. Having graduated in 2019, Lindsay earned her first sponsorship thanks to her Instagram presence, enabling her to return to the sport she loved.

Brewer is now on the second of four levels on the Road to Indy, and has the constant dream of making it to the IndyCar series, putting all her time and dedication into a lifetime goal.

"If I have to go to the gym twice a day, I will," The American racing driver said to People magazine, "I will do everything in my power to get stronger."

But Brewer has never had it easy, like many wom\en in this sport. The young driver has been harshly criticised, and even doubted for her looks and Instagram persona, even getting negativity from fellow female racing drivers.

'I've talked to a few female drivers in the past who were older and I asked for advice... and they were like, "stop posting swimwear photos, this just makes women look so bad in the industry,"' she told Dailymail.com in an exclusive interview.

'If you're truly about feminism and women in the industry, you should allow them to be who they wanna be and not put them in that box. Like you should not say, "OK you can't wear makeup, you have to dress a certain way, you can't post certain things."

Doubted by her engineers, the media, and even other drivers, Brewer made her way to the top. She is a talented driver with a bright future ahead of her, a beautiful person inside and outside. The perfect example of girls still being “feminine” yet possessing an aggressive racing mindset on track at the same time. You don’t have to follow any stereotypes or fit into anyone’s standards to be taken seriously. You can be anything you want to be, and Lindsay Brewer is an amazing driver and a true superwoman.

'I'll always have my hair bleached and fake nails. I can still be a bada** driver.”
