Repsol Honda Test Rider, Stefan Bradl, is set to return to the MotoGP field for the Algarve Grand Prix in his now regular role as replacement for Marc Marquez.

The German will deputise for the injured Marquez who was pulled out of the round in Portimao as a precautionary measure. The Spaniard sustained a concussion last Saturday in a training session aboard an off-road motorcycle. As a result, Honda will call upon their trusted test and replacement rider to fulfill the latter of his roles.

“First of all I hope Marc is recovering well and he can be back on track soon,” Said Bradl.

“I am looking forward to riding again as Portimao is an enjoyable circuit where we had a good result towards the end of 2020. It’s never easy to jump on the bike, but we have had a lot of good bike time this year between the races and testing.”

This will be the fifth appearance of the season and third in the Repsol Honda colours having stood in for Marquez for the first two rounds as the Spaniard was still recovering from an arm and shoulder injury sustained in 2020. In fact, over the past two seasons, Bradl has raced in 17 rounds for Repsol Honda.

With the Algarve Grand Prix taking place in Portimao some would tip Bradl to have a good result. Despite the German only mounting the RC213V twice this season, the German did score his best finish on the rollercoaster circuit.
