Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) have announced that their Formula 3 driver Hiyu Yamakoshi will step up to the team’s Formula 2 seat in the upcoming weekend at Baku, replacing the outgoing Nicolás Varrone.

Formula 2 seldom sees drivers coming in from professional-grade series to race in the championship. It’s also a rare occurrence to see a driver make the switch from sports car racing to an open-wheeled single-seater series.
