DAMS’ Jak Crawford likened his Formula 2 pole in Baku to the breakthrough he achieved earlier in the year, when the American secured pole position in Jeddah after going three races without scoring points. 

The tail end of every Formula 2 season sees newer faces step up from the lower rung of Formula 3. While it was F3 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and Christian Mansell last time around, this year sees McLaren junior Martinius Stenshorne and Laurens van Hoepen make an early leap into F2. 

DAMS racer Jak Crawford took his second pole position of 2025, this time by 19 milliseconds from championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, in a session of multiple interruptions and incidents around the streets of Baku.

After an exciting European stretch of the calendar, the Formula 2 caravan now shifts to the trio of flyaway races to round out the 2025 F2 season. The first of these races comes in quick time, with the streets of Baku playing host to Formula One’s premier feeder series this weekend. The F2 grid returned to racing action at Monza, but it was status quo at the head of the field, as championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli took his fourth race win of 2025, holding off the charging Campos of Arvid Lindblad in a fight to the final lap on home soil.

After taking his maiden Formula 2 pole in a stop-start qualifying session in Monza, Hitech TGR racer Luke Browning believed he hadn’t quite extracted the maximum pace from his car during the 30-minute session that featured three red flag stoppages. 

Nothing could have prepared Van Amersfoort Racing’s John Bennett for the next step in his racing career. When his compatriots on the 2025 Formula 2 grid were all taking part in Monza’s Formula 3 or Formula 2 weekends, Bennett found himself spending his weekend in a soaking wet GB3 race at Donington Park. 

Formula 3 will head into the sunset as the season comes to a close at Monza, but the championship battle for Formula 2 only continues at the highest intensity, with five in contention as the series returns from the summer break, with four weekends to go. Campos racer Pepe Martí said he “wasn’t really worried” as he cruised to his third sprint win of 2025 in F2’s Hungarian sprint, which got hectic towards the end as the top two squabbled over track position in the final sector on the last lap. 

Arvid Lindblad and Luke Browning have received two separate five-second time penalties for their respective incidents, demoting them outside the points-scoring positions and shaking up the championship picture during F2's Hungarian weekend.

Campos racer Pepe Martí led the field to victory from reverse grid pole, fending off a late attempt from Rodin Motorsport's Alex Dunne on the final lap, in what turned out to be an exciting finish, with both drivers duelling it out in the final sector on the last lap to take victory.

Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli attempted a different strategy to the rest of the grid, one that eventually fetched him second on the road in Friday’s qualifying. It was a result the Italian racer was “super happy” about, as he spoke of working with teammate Staněk over the weekend. 

Roman Staněk took his maiden pole position in F2 on Friday's 30-minute qualifying session in Hungary, ahead of teammate Leonardo Fornaroli. While he topped most of the running, the Czech racer certainly wasn't expecting to be at the head of the pack after 30 minutes of flying laps.

Invicta Racing continued their wave of momentum in the European stage of the Formula 2 calendar, with Roman Staněk backing up his Feature Race win in Belgium with a maiden pole position in F2 in Hungary, as the team in yellow locked out the front row of the grid.
