According to the speculations in the media, Lewis Hamilton will not decide whether to return to Formula 1 this season until he sees the results of the FIA inquiry into the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
A month ago, on December 12, Max Verstappen was crowned the winner of the 2021 season after a tense, dramatic, and resoundingly controversial race.
Since that day, social media has been exploding with differing opinions about the decisions made that resulted in the finale. According to Toto Wolff, Michael Masi is the person responsible for the controversy, regarding the episode “a freestyle reading of the rules that left Lewis like a duck sitting”. He also added that Masi “robbing him [Lewis] on the last lap of the race is unacceptable”.
Following the dissatisfaction of Mercedes fans, Max’s fans have also claimed their anger over the media, as reported by an article in Daily Express that said the orange army was left with “bad taste in their mouths” after the “manufactured win”.
Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes lasts until end of the next year (2023), but the seven time world champion has disappeared from all his socials, and hasn’t been captured by papparazi as well. The Silent was commented on by Team Principal, Toto Wolff who said that the driver is “devastated” and has “no words” after the results on that night.
During the writing of this article, the FIA spoke for the first time since the last race in Abu Dhabi.
The statement by the FIA on 19, January, 2022.
