F3: Ugo Ugochukwu converts pole into Silverstone sprint race victory

Ugo Ugochukwu produced a commanding drive to claim victory in the Formula 3 sprint race at the Silverstone, leading from pole position to secure a comfortable win after controlling proceedings throughout the 18-lap contest.

The Campos Racing driver made a clean getaway from pole to retain the lead into Turn 1, whilst AIX’s Yevan David settled into second place after an equally tidy start. Behind them, TRIDENT Matteo De Palo looked to make early progress by sweeping around the outside in a bid to gain positions.

Further back, Gerrard Xie of DAMS Racing was one of the first frontrunners to head into the pit lane, along with Christian Ho of Rodin Motorsport. Ho was forced to pit for a front nose change following contact.

Naël demonstrated strong pace during the opening stages, setting the fastest lap on Lap 5 as he began to work his way through the field. Freddie Slater of TRIDENT was also on the move, closing in on Ernesto Rivera of Campos Racing in the battle for 11th place.

At the front, Ugochukwu responded by setting the fastest lap himself, maintaining his advantage as he continued to lead the field. Behind him, Naël continued his charge by closing in on Maciej Gładysz of ART Grand Prix in the fight for ninth.

The race soon settled into a strategic affair, with Ugochukwu leading a lengthy DRS train headed by David and Alessandro Giusti. James Wharton of PREMA Racing then produced one of the standout overtakes of the race, making a move around the outside of Giusti to claim third position.

As the race entered its second half, battles intensified throughout the field. Naël continued his impressive recovery drive, whilst Théophile Naël and Noah Strømsted were involved in a close battle that almost resulted in contact.

Naël’s progress saw him climb steadily through the order into the top five, whilst Slater also fought his way into the points-paying positions after another composed recovery drive.

Strømsted continued to pressure David further up the order, whilst De Palo briefly challenged Naël before reclaiming the position in a hard-fought exchange.

With just one lap remaining, Ugochukwu held a commanding advantage of around 14 seconds over David, leaving little doubt over the outcome at the front.

The battle for the remaining podium places, however, continued until the closing moments. Naël completed another late overtake to snatch third place, capping off an impressive recovery drive after climbing seven positions across the race.

Ugochukwu ultimately crossed the line to secure victory ahead of David, whilst Naël completed the podium after an excellent drive through the field. The Spaniard delivered another stellar drive in the Silverstone sprint.
