Hitech have announced Jacob Micallef will race at selected GB3 rounds for the rest of this season.
The Maltese driver is replacing current drivers’ championship leader Jin Nakamura, who is stepping back from his GB3 efforts to focus fully on his Formula 3 campaign.
He will only be doing select races for the rest of the current season as Micallef is also focusing on a Spanish F4 campaign. Where he is competing with another recognisable feeder series name, Campos Racing, and currently 15th place in the drivers’ championship (in a field of 33).
The new Hitech driver made a successful first impression in the GB3 car at the recent Snetterton test, where Micallef finished 6th on day two - his best time putting him just nine tenths off first on his second-ever test day in GB3.
On joining the grid with Hitech, Micallef commented: "I'm incredibly excited to be joining Hitech for these races in the GB3 Championship.
Stepping up to this championship only one step away from FIA F3 in only my first season is an unbelievable opportunity”
Hitech GB3 team manager Phil Blow echoed the Maltese driver’s comments, saying that: “We’re delighted to announce Jacob for selected rounds of our GB3 Championship campaign and to promote another young and emerging talent to the next level of single-seater racing.”
Before his successful year-to-date in open wheel racing, Micallef ended his karting career on a high, recording a podium in the FIA Karting Championship - OK European Championship.
Building on this, the Maltese driver has achieved great success as an open-wheel racing rookie, getting two-top 10 finishes in the opening round of the F4 Saudi Arabian championship at the Bahrain International Circuit, his first time in open-wheel racing when he competed there in late 2025.
How will Micallef perform on debut? Only time will tell.
The Maltese driver is set to debut in GB3 with his new team for round 3 at the Hungaroring (July 3-5th).
