No.87 Akkodis ASP Lexus driver José María López is set to replace Mike Conway for the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC) round at Lone Star Le Mans due to an injury.
Toyota has announced that Mike Conway will be ruled out from the sixth round of the 2025 WEC season at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), after the veteran suffered a collarbone injury in a training accident.
López will pilot the No.7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid alongside Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries. This is the second time this replacement has been done after last year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“I’m sad for Mike, who is a great friend, and I know he is so disappointed that he cannot race in Austin,” Lopez said, “I wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.
“It’s an unexpected opportunity for me to work with everyone in the team again, and I am sure it will be just like old times very quickly. I feel ready for the challenge, and I will give everything to get a strong result with Kamui and Nyck.”
As for López 's place in Lexus, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA) driver Jack Hawksworth will take over the vacant seat.
The Vasser Sullivan regular previously filled in for the Argentine the last season of Le Mans, the same time when the first Lopez-Conway switch occurred.
As for the sister car, the No.8 Toyota will be back in its regular lineup of Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa. Buemi is set to return to the Japanese marque after his absence from last month's 6 Hours of Sao Paolo due to a clash with his Formula E commitments.
