Liam Lawson has achieved his highest Formula One finish yet in fifth-place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

With an unsteady start to his 2025 F1 campaign, being demoted from Red Bull to Racing Bulls and not performing to the highest standard, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been a turning point for Lawson.

After a shock third-place finish in qualifying on Saturday, Lawson kept up a solid race in Baku and managed to finish with an extra 10 points for RB and himself. Although he missed out on the podium, this is Lawson’s career-best finish in F1.

Despite his strong performance this weekend, Lawson has mixed feelings on his result. Lawson said: “It’s a little bit disappointing from where we started and realistically we didn’t have the speed to fight with the guys in front today. Obviously you’re always hopeful and yeah, we tried everything today but it just wasn’t quite enough.

“But still to have a P5 finish is big for us, especially in the championship right now so massive thanks to the team, we’ve had a good car all weekend and I’m happy to come home with some points.

“You always want more, especially when you start further up. I would’ve loved to finish even higher today but it’s still a great result and honestly it’s the best we had today.”

Lawson’s result today takes RB to up to 72 points, sixth in the constructors’ standings. It also raises Lawson up to 13th in the drivers’ standings with 30 points.

Looking ahead to Singapore, RB seem to have a quick car that could give both Lawson and Isack Hadjar another chance at fighting inside the top 10. If this momentum can be carried forward, Lawson may well continue to build on his strongest F1 race weekend so far.
