Oliver Rowland "disappointed" to be out of Formula E title fight after doing "best we could"

Reigning Formula E World Champion, Oliver Rowland, has crashed out of the Formula E 2025/26 championship hunt after dropping to more than 29 points behind Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein. Rowland revealed that he is "disappointed" to be out of the fight after doing the "best we could."

Rowland qualified in a frustrating 13th position ahead of the penultimate race, where he needed to stay within 29-points of Wehrlein, Jake Dennis and Mitch Evans to have a mathematical chance of winning the world championship. However, despite setting the fastest lap and gaining three places during the race, the Briton is now officially out of the title hunt going into the final race of the season.

Speaking to DIVEBOMB's Owen Bradley after the race, Rowland stated: "The target for this weekend was to try and fight for the championship, and we didn't achieve that today, so obviously quite disappointed on that side. I think we did what we could, in terms of maximising the race, but we were on the wrong side of the Full Course Yellow and pit window. We had cars blocking for no real reason, for P14, which is a bit frustrating. Apart from that, I think we did the best that we could."

A crash from Lucas Di Grassi brought out a Full Course Yellow just over halfway through the race, to the benefit of Wehrlein and Dennis, but the detriment of Rowland and Evans, with one out of the title race and the other now needing a miracle to win the title.

Rowland was also held up by Porsche's Nico Müller, who defended from Jaguar's Mitch Evans throughout the race in an effort to assist teammate Wehrlein, which eventually proved successful, with the German taking the lead in the championship standings.

Nissan's Rowland crossed the line in 10th position, after gaining three places and setting the fastest lap of the race despite being caught in traffic, and on the wrong side of the FCY.

Speaking about the disappointment of the championship, Rowland said: "It's disappointing, but I always said coming into the weekend that we had everything to gain and nothing to lose. We still sit fourth. It's disappointing but I've been around a long enough time to understand that these things are quite rare anyway, so I'll use it as motivation for next time."

The number one will no longer be on the Nissan of Rowland, as all eyes focus on the championship battle between Wehrlein, Dennis and Evans in the final race of the season on Sunday afternoon at 15:05 local time.
