After a one-and-a-half season campaign at Mahindra, Oliver Rowland will be returning to Nissan, unseating Norman Nato for the 2023-24 Formula E season. A podium finish in Season 8’s season finale in Seoul was the highlight of what was otherwise a less successful stint than his former team, with which he took five pole positions, as well as a win at Race five in Berlin in 2020.
Rowland and Mahindra decided to part ways before the Jakarta double-header. When asked about the decisions made back in May, team principal Frederic Bertrand said they “found a common agreement with Ollie. We found it was better at that time of the year to take a bit of time to think and that's what we agreed [on].”
Rowland has been excited to reunite with his former team, saying; “I’m really excited, it’s a bit of a homecoming for me, back to the place I started my Formula E journey and somewhere I had a lot of success.”
Team boss Tomasso Volpe commented on the transfer, saying; "We’re very happy to welcome Oliver back, we know his talent and experience and we’re sure he will contribute significantly to the future success of the team.”
The Nissan team also announced Sacha Fenestraz's continuation at the Japanese manufacturer for next season, after an impressive rookie outing, adding that he “proved his raw talent since he joined. He’s shown to be excellent in qualifying and has huge potential to grow and become a major force in the championship.”
