Piastri after missing out on 2025 title: “Not quite the ending I wished for”

After a season of ups and downs, Oscar Piastri unfortunately couldn’t grab the crown in Abu Dhabi. With plenty of lessons learned, the Australian driver reflected on his season.

Piastri was on top of the standings for a solid few races in the middle of the season and looked like a serious contender to take the title. However, there were a few bumps in the road towards the end of the year.

On top of that, Max Verstappen made his way back into the title fight and managed to outscore Piastri by two points before going into the final race of the season. This made it even more difficult for Piastri to attempt going for the championship.

In the end, Norris took his first title win over his teammate. Piastri reflected on his day and looks forward to more opportunities to fight for a world title in the future:

“I knew that going into today, I needed the stars to align to win the championship.

“Ultimately, I tried my best and put myself in the best position I could to try and win the race and give myself the best opportunity, but it wasn’t to be. I think we can be very proud of the season we’ve had.

“On a personal level, it’s obviously not quite the ending I wished for but I think when you look at the season as a whole, I’m very proud of the work that I’ve been able to put in and my team have been able to put in to make so much progress from last year. I’m looking forward to plenty more fights in the future.”

Speaking on the rocky patch he experienced the past few race weekends, Piastri is happy to have ended the season on a higher note after finishing in second:

“It is nice to end the last couple of weekends on a relative high, certainly from a performance point of view.

“I guess individually it was nice to find some form again because it would have been pretty painful to end it on the note that Austin, Mexico and Brazil kind of went to.

“Ultimately, there were ups and downs throughout the year. I’ll look back on the ups with a lot of pride and joy, and look on the downs with plenty of lessons learned. There are plenty more years left to go and hopefully plenty more opportunities.”

Although the title may have slipped from his fingers this time, it is evident that Piastri is a bright star in this sport. If this season proved anything, it’s that Piastri is more than just a future contender. He is more than likely a future Formula One World Drivers’ Champion.
