Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Fuji cancelled due to poor weather; No.36 Alpine to start from pole
Qualifying went green on a wet track thanks to heavy rain before the session, with minimal showers during qualifying, and as is often the case with rain at the Fuji Speedway, an intense fog also accompanied the rain.
Immediately, drivers complained about aquaplaning and a little more than a minute after cars started going on track for the first LMGT3 Qualifying session, the No.21 AF Corse Ferrari with François Heriau hit the barriers and brought out the red flag.
The session was soon cancelled due to the aquaplaning and the extreme lack of visibility brought on by the fog.
As per the rules, when both Hyperpole and Qualifying are cancelled, times from all Free Practice sessions are taken to formulate the grid for the race.
This will put the No.36 Alpine on pole amongst Hypercars thanks to Victor Martins topping Free Practice 2. The No.35 will be starting second to make it a front row lockout for the French manufacturer's final visit at Fuji.
The No.19 Genesis Magma will be starting from third, giving the series' newest manufacturers their best starting position so far.
The No.007 was second fastest across practice, but due to to an incident in Free Practice 2, were given a two place grid drop, dropping them from second to fourth on the grid.
The other Genesis machine, the No.17 will be starting fifth ahead of the other Aston Martin, the No.009.
The No.38 Cadillac and the No.8 Toyota will be taking up the fourth row with the No.93 Peugeot and the No.12 Cadillac rounding off the top 10.
In LMGT3, the No.77 Proton Competition Ford Mustang will be starting from pole since Ben Tuck topped FP2. The No.79 Iron Lynx Mercedes will start alongside the Mustang in second.
The No.78 Akkodis ASP Lexus will start third for the Lexus' final visit to Fuji. Beside the Lexus on the second row will be the other Iron Lynx Mercedes, the No.61 with the No.87 Lexus rounding up the top five.
The 6 Hours of Fuji will start tomorrow at 11:00 JST (03:00 BST).
