Vettel was called to the stewards last night under the accusation that he had failed to respect double yellow flags at turn 1. Nikita Mazepin had spun in the closing stages of Q1 yesterday and caught many drivers out as they had to slow for the yellow flag. Vettel claimed that he was unsure if the smoke ahead was from a lock-up or a genuine incident so, he did not abort the lap to which the stewards observed that the driver had passed an illuminated double yellow signal panel and so should have slowed.
This comes after a very disappointing qualifying session for the German in his new team as he only managed to qualify 18th – although this penalty will see him start last. Following yesterday’s poor performance, Sebastian exclaimed that he was ‘upset and angry with how his first competitive outing with the Silverstone-based outfit had gone.’ Vettel and his new employers will be hoping that he can turn his fortunes around in this afternoon’s race.
