24H Nürburgring Series postponed until 2028, NLS to run eight race calendar
Plans to establish a second series of endurance racing surrounding the Nürburgring and the N24 have been postponed for a year, following discussions between the NLS and the Interessengemeinschaft Langstrecke Nürburgring (ILN) - an organisation that speaks on behalf of many of the biggest teams in the NLS.
There were already plans for the 24H Nürburgring Series to kick off it's inaugural season with five races, including the NLS Qualifiers and the N24 itself. Teams were also incentivised to the series with reduced entry fees for completing the full season, and guaranteed entry to the N24.
The postponement comes alongside the release of the 2027 calendar for the NLS. They will run eight races as championship scoring events, not including the NLS Qualifiers in next years calendar, as they have been for some time now.
They will take place from the 30th of April to the 2nd of May - after an official N24 test weekend from the 2nd to the 4th of April - and will solely be used as preparation and to dictate who gets automatic entry into top-qualifying for the N24, which will be held from the 27th to the 30th of May.
That means that the seven points-scoring rounds will be held across seven weekends, all of which being four hour events bar one (6h-Rennen) , with NLS 5 and 6 running as a double header weekend.

24H race director Walter Hornung said; "Unfortunately, the lead time for introducing a new series format was too short for many racing teams, partners and sponsors"
However he continued; "We remain convinced that our forward-looking concept for motorsport on the Nordschleife makes sense, and we have received a great deal of positive feedback regarding it.
"We intend to engage in in-depth discussions on this matter with the key stakeholders at the Nürburgring, and especially with the racing teams."
