Audi appoints Allan McNish as Racing Director ahead of Miami Grand Prix

Audi F1 Team has today confirmed the appointment of Allan McNish as Racing Director, marking a key step in the continued development of its Formula One project.
McNish has remained a central figure in Audi’s motorsport activities and has been part of the F1 project since its inception. He now takes on responsibility for coordinating all trackside operations, with a remit including oversight of sporting matters, engineering coordination, driver management, race strategy, and garage operations.
His role also extends to on-track media and partner activities as the team continues its F1 rookie season.
McNish assumes trackside accountability from the Miami Grand Prix onwards. He was included in the programme right from its inception, which gives him profound knowledge about Audi and the rigors of F1 motorsports. The perfect blend of these qualities makes him a perfect fit to take up the position at such a crucial juncture for the team.
McNish, who has worked extensively in F1 motorsport, can boast of immense experience not only as a professional but also as an administrator. Having tested and acted as a substitute driver for many F1 teams, he also made quite a name in endurance racing with multiple wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race and an FIA World Endurance Championship crown to his credit.
In the context of Audi’s corporate hierarchy, McNish has occupied many key administrative positions in the past such as Director of Coordination at Audi Group Motorsport and Team Principal at Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler Formula E. Most importantly, he currently manages the F1 team’s Driver Development Programme, a task that he will continue to do along with his new responsibilities.
He will report directly to Mattia Binotto in his role as CEO and Team Principal of the Audi Revolut F1 Team. The appointment underlines the brand's commitment to building a high-performance, integrated racing organisation to meet the technical and strategic challenges of F1.

The move ensures that trackside operations are led by someone with intimate knowledge of the car's development and the team's long-term F1 goals. McNish’s dual focus on the current race weekend and future talent via the Driver Development Programme creates a streamlined path for performance.

The shift to a McNish-led trackside operation marks the end of Audi’s initial exploratory phase and the beginning of a more aggressive, execution-heavy era in F1. By installing a figure who understands both the granular physics of the cockpit and the high-level politics of the boardroom, Binotto has secured a vital bridge between the Neuburg factory and the heat of the pit lane.
As the team arrives in Florida, the focus moves from theoretical potential to tangible points. McNish now carries the weight of ensuring that every strategy call, every pit stop, and every technical adjustment aligns with the long-term objective of turning this rookie F1 outfit into a championship-calibre force. The building blocks are finally in place; now, the execution must follow.
