Porsche Formula E team have announced that they will reunite with Turkish driver Ayhancan Güven for the Formula E Rookie Free Practice session at the Miami E-Prix. The 28-year-old will be driving the Porsche 99X Electric during the session on Friday, January 30, ahead of the race weekend.

The rookie practice is a mandatory 40-minute session for all ten teams in the all-electric racing series. Drivers involved in the test must not have started a Formula E race yet, with the intention being to provide drivers outside the Formula E grid with a chance to test a Formula E car in a competitive session on a race weekend.

Güven is no stranger to the world of Formula E, though, having made his Rookie Test debut last July after the Berlin E-Prix for Porsche's factory unit.

In 2020, Güven joined Porsche Motorsport after having triumphed in the factory junior driver selection process. The Turkish driver has successes with Porsche in GT racing and was the 2025 DTM champion.

Porsche team principal Florian Modlinger welcomed the initiative to conduct the rookie Formula E practice sessions, saying:

“Budgets and test days are strictly limited in Formula E. Energy management is complex, and this places particularly high mental demands on the drivers. That significantly reduces the pool of potential candidates. In this respect, we very much welcome the rookie sessions in Formula E.”

He also went on to praise Ayhancan Güven:

“Ayhancan impressed us in Berlin – not only because he was second fastest at the end of the test day. He comes from the Porsche Junior programme, so we already knew him well. At the same time, he had never driven a single-seater before.

“Expectations were moderate, but Ayhancan clearly exceeded them. The fact that he is also a sim racer can be an advantage in Formula E, as we carry out a lot of testing and development work in the simulator. We were also impressed by the mindset with which he won the DTM title.”

Güven is the first driver to be announced for the upcoming rookie test at Miami, and do keep an eye as several young drivers will form a part of the roster for this test session ahead of the Miami E-Prix weekend!
