Nikita Bedrin won GB3 round four race two in dominant fashion, in a race where many fell victim to the Red Bull Ring’s deadly track limits.
The Italian driver now leads the drivers’ championship by 90 points, gaining six points on rival Maxim Rehm in this race.
Focusing on the race itself, when the five lights went out it was a strong start for all drivers. There were a few battles towards the back, with some drivers even going three-wide into Turn 1 - as well as Rodin Motorsport’s Abbi Pulling going off the road to hold onto seventh place.
Not too much later, the drag reduction system was enabled, which enabled a few more battles to happen on track.
But not for drivers’ championship leader Bedrin, who had already built up a gap of 0.743 seconds to second place Lucas Fluxa. Although at the point of the race, most of the action had calmed down for a while.
However a few laps later, this is where the limitless track limits penalties began to start. Most drivers who received them from the stewards tended to pick them up from Turns 1, 3 (exit of the corner), 9 and 10.
Roughly six drivers received track limits penalties, varying from five seconds time penalties all the way up to drive throughs.
First it was Kyuho Lee with 9 minutes and 10 seconds to go with a post-race time penalty, and it seemed to not stop from there.
In fact a point was made on the official broadcast that there were so many track limit violations that it would have taken them the rest of the race to read them out.
By this time the race had ended and Bedrin had secured a controlled win from start to finish. The Italian driver now leads in the drivers’ standings by 90 points to Rehm, with this season shaping up to not be a close battle for the title currently.
Bedrin post-race commented that: “We just controlled it from the front” and “P1 yesterday, P1 today”.
Race three starts at 1:15pm BST.
