After a crazy Brazilian Grand Prix weekend, MotoGP returned to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

With plenty of talk the previous weekend about track conditions, MotoGP arrived in the United States at a challenging circuit.

Marc Marquez took the headlines on Friday, finishing fastest with an early crash, despite many stoppages. Pedro Acosta finished third in the sprint, but ultimately was dropped to eight after being deemed to have breached tyre pressure regulations.

Sprint Round Up

The Sprint race at the Grand Prix of the Americas delivered much drama during the 10 lap race, but also after the chequered flag.

Pedro Acosta was deemed to have breached tyre regulations and was given an eight-second post-race penalty, dropping him from P3 to P8, promoting Enea Bastianini to third.

This ultimately gave Bastianini a second sprint podium of the season.

Jorge Martin won the sprint with a decision to take the medium tyre paying off as his teammate Marco Bezzecchi crashed with three laps to go.

Jorge Martin’s celebrations were also short-lived as the Spaniard bizarrely fell from his bike while celebrating, lifting his front wheel off the ground, losing control of his Aprilia as his front wheel touched the ground.

The former world-champion was uninjured, but was uninjured after the crash, scoring his first victory after 500 days.

Race Report

It was a dominant display from the Aprilia outfit as Marco Bezzecchi won five races in a row.

Bezzecchi’s teammate finished in 2nd place, following his win in the sprint, whilst Acosta managed to hold onto third place.

Bezzecchi managed to break a record in the process of winning, with the most consecutive laps led by a rider, breaking Jorge Lorenzo’s record.

Further back, Marc Marquez squabbled with  Digiannantonino in the early stages of the race and dropped to 11th after serving his long lap penalty for his collision with the same rider during the sprint.

Marquez fought his way back through the field and passed his teammate Bagnaia with three laps left in the race, finishing in fifth.

Toprak Razgatioglu secured his first point of the season, finishing in 15th, leading his Yamaha teammates Fabio Quartararo, Jack Miller and two-time Austin winner Alex Rins.

Joan Mir added another fall to his collection of crashed in 2026, crashing in over 50% of his races with the factory Honda team.

Be sure to catch the race in Spain on 24th April at 14:00 GMT.
