Former Formula One driver Daniil Kvyat will not compete in any FIA events after failing to sign the FIA’s “Neutrality and Peace Commitment”, meaning he will not be racing in the 2022 World Endurance Championship with G-Drive racing as previously planned.
Kvyat’s move to the team was leaked back in February with a formal announcement following a week later. Unfortunately, a lot has happened after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It led to the FIA declaring any drivers with a Russian or Belarussian license would have to complete under a neutral flag as well as sign a document stating that they would not express any support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, and it is this document Kvyat has failed to sign before the deadline meaning he will not be able to compete in FIA events for the foreseeable future.
The crisis surrounding the invasion is also an issue for his team G-Drive Racing, which is owned by the heavily sanctioned Russian gas giant Gazprom. Their driver Roman Rusinov has announced that the team would not be entering any of its scheduled races this year, saying that he would not accept the FIA’s “discriminatory conditions”.
Luckily for the team’s remaining drivers, it seems likely that Algarve Pro Racing, who own and run the G-Drive entered cars, will try to run as a rebranded effort, but without Kvyat or Rusinov.
