Evans' final race with Jaguar "going to be emotional" with championship on the line in London

Mitch Evans comes into the London E-Prix weekend just two points behind championship leader, Jake Dennis. With two races remaining, the championship is on the line and ready for the taking, with nine drivers in mathematical contention. However, the London E-Prix is also Evans' final race with Jaguar, a team which the New Zealander has been with since 2016.

Despite Evans fighting for the title, nine other drivers are still in mathematical contention, with the leading four drivers in with a realistic shot of becoming champion. After racing with Jaguar for the past decade, can Evans get a fairy-tale ending with the British manufacturer?

Speaking to DIVEBOMB's Owen Bradley about the target for the London E-Prix weekend, and how he can ensure he becomes champion, Evans stated: "There's one clear target - become world champion. Also to win both championships, but for me, I'm really wanting to finally get that Drivers' title, I've come so close in the past.

He added: "How we do that? We've got to be quick, we have to create good strategies in the race, and beat the guys we're facing. It's all pretty clear, just a matter of doing the execution, and getting it right when it matters."

A Formula E world championship victory has eluded Mitch Evans on multiple occasions. The New Zealander has finished runner-up in the championship standings twice, in the 2021/22 season and 2023/24 season. Evans also finished third in the standings during the 2022/23 season.

With Evans leaving Jaguar following the conclusion of the London E-Prix this weekend, there has been a lot of attention on him in the build up to this weekend for multiple reasons, which could add to the pressure of performing.

Speaking about how he manages to maintain his focus on fighting for the title whilst racing for Jaguar one last time, Evans stated: "At the moment, (managing) okay, not great, not terrible - I'm not in tears, but naturally it just adds a bit of weight to me wanting to try and get this done.

"It's going to be an emotional one, it's got a bit more real since I got here, I know it's been coming for a while but it feels odd. I want to make the most of my last races with the team. Ultimately, the last thing we have to achieve is the Drivers' title, so we will do all we can to make sure that happens."

"It's tough, but it's part of the game now, so you just take it on. I'm human as well, so you go through waves of different emotions and confidence, self doubt and that's normal for us athletes. I've also been here before, in a championship fight, so I know the pressure that comes with it, but it's what I'm paid to do, I'm paid to perform when it matters, and I take that responsibility and try to block out the noise as much as I can, but ultimately when I'm in the car just try to drive as well as I can and get the most out of what I have."

Evans finished just six points behind Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein in the 2023/24 season, losing the championship at the final race in London just two seasons ago. However, with it being his final race for Jaguar, and the experience of fighting for the title in previous seasons, the odds may be in his favour, especially considering the New Zealander topped the first practice session on Friday.

Evans battles numerous drivers this weekend for championship glory, hoping to end his tenure at Jaguar with a fairy-tale championship victory after missing out on the title on several occasions. The penultimate round of the Formula E championship gets underway on Saturday the 15th August at 15:05 local time in London.
