Ford has confirmed Tom Blomqvist, Matt Campbell and Nick Yelloly as the final trio of its two-car lineup for the 2027 World Endurance Championship (WEC) debut season through its Hypercar program.
Announced at Le Mans this Friday, they will be joining Logan Sargeant, Sebastian Priaulx and Mike Rockenfeller, who were revealed as the first batch of drivers for Ford's maiden season in the Hypercar class.
After a decade of working with Porsche, from his Porsche junior days to their works factory driver, it will be a huge shift in environment for Matt Campbell. Other than two IMSA WeatherTech Championship titles, the Australian driver gave the German marque victories in major sportscar races, including a class win at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans.
His wealth of sportscar experience and on-track pace will definitely be valuable for Ford's development in the early years of its Hypercar program.
“I’m extremely excited and proud to be joining Ford Racing for their new Hypercar program," said Campbell.
"Ford has a longstanding history of success in top levels of motorsport and at Le Mans, which is something I am also chasing, and I believe Ford is the right place to achieve that goal together. We have a lot of laps to turn later this year, but the work has already started and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
Blomqvist will also be joining Ford as a veteran; his resume showcases diverse experience in single-seaters, prototypes and GT cars. A two-time 24 Hours of Daytona champion, he also impressed the audience outside the US, with a win at the 2018 24 Hours of Spa.
The Anglo-Swedish driver commented: “Joining Ford Racing at the start of such an ambitious program is an incredibly exciting opportunity. To be part of the project from the outset, help shape its development and work towards the shared goal of bringing Ford back to the top step of the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is very special."
Last but not least, fellow IMSA star Yelloly has experience of conquering the European endurance Triple Crown, LMP2 class winner at Le Mans, two respective wins at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and 24 Hours of Spa for BMW. The British driver eventually moved to Acura in 2025 to lead a new second Meyer Shank Racing team., with Honda providing engineering support.
“I’m extremely excited and proud to be joining Ford Racing for their new Hypercar program," said the 35-year-old.
"Being part of the lineup who are bringing back the legendary Blue Oval to Le Mans is a big honor and I am very grateful for the opportunity. I’m itching to get going with the whole team and can’t wait to get this show on the road!
"Ford’s heritage in endurance racing speaks for itself, and I’m proud to represent the brand as we begin this exciting new chapter together.”
Ford also revealed that the testing session for its latest 5.4-litre V8-powered Hypercar will begin this August at various European tracks, to collect data and analyse it for further improvements, especially in the aspects of reliability, performance and systems.
The name and design of its car will also be announced in due course.
Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Racing, makes no secret of Ford's main goal in returning to the WEC; to attempt another win at Le Mans, having last won in 2016 in the LMGTE class.
“At Ford Racing, competition runs through our veins, and as America’s Race Team, it is only right that we carry the banner ourselves. With the additions of Matt, Nick and Tom alongside Logan, Rocky and Seb, we have finalized a driver lineup capable of winning races.
We aren’t just returning to Le Mans to participate – we are returning to fight for overall victory, and this complete roster gives us the perfect foundation to achieve that goal,”
