The 3.7 km (2.3-mi) 17-turn track has been a fixture on the IndyCar calendar since 2010 and has become a fan favourite due to its undulating nature. The circuit demands great commitment from drivers, but it also provides excellent sightlines for spectators.
Ahead of the Indycar race this afternoon at Barber Motorsports Park, Indycar and ZOOM Motorsports announced a multi-year extension that will keep the annual event going until at least 2027. Since its inception in 2010, Barber Motorsports Park has been a staple on the Indycar series calendar and is one of the longest-running races on the series schedule.
Dubbed as the "Augusta of Racing", Barber Motorsports Park has become a favourite among fans and drivers alike, with its challenging layout and excellent spectator experience. The multi-year extension with ZOOM Motorsports coincides with the new agreement with the entitlement partners of the race, Medical Properties Trust and Children's of Alabama. The multi-year commitment executed by the two partners this year allows the Children's of Alabama Indy Grand Prix to continue its mission of raising funds for one of the busiest paediatric hospitals in the country.
This philanthropic opportunity is a first-of-its-kind for the Indycar series, making it even more meaningful for everyone involved. The announcement of the multi-year extension is fantastic news for the Barber Motorsports Park, further cementing its status as one of the premier racing venues in the country.
CEO of ZOOM Motorsports, Gene Hallman said:
“It has been an honour to host this race since 2010 at the world-renowned Barber Motorsports Park.”
“The event has become a cornerstone of the Birmingham community, drawing fans from all over the world. We are excited for the future of this event and what it means to Children’s of Alabama.”
Penske Entertainment Corp. President and CEO Mark Miles quoted:
“We are pleased the NTT IndyCar Series will return to Barber Motorsports Park for years to come. For the last 13 years, Barber has been an ideal host and the perfect southeastern venue to showcase IndyCar’s bold and brash personality and compelling action.”
“With its unique layout and dramatic features, this beautiful facility is a favourite with our fans and within our paddock. We look forward to growing this meaningful partnership with more thrilling racing and iconic moments.”
