22:24 That's it for sprint qualifying then. Kimi Antonelli will lead the field away for tomorrow's sprint at 17:00 BST.
22:24 That was also the first time that Kimi Antonelli has out-qualified George Russell this season. What a session for stats!
22:23 Antonelli: "It was a very intense qualifying. I felt really good since this morning and I felt confident.
"The last lap was mighty. I put basically everything together. Really happy to get my first pole.
"Tomorrow it's going to be nice to start on the front row. It's going to be a bit of a different feeling but I cannot wait to see how we can do in the sprint and in qualifying as well."
22:20 The young Italian is so excited that he cannot take his helmet off. His dad is giving him a hand!
22:20 Antonelli has absolutely obliterated Sebastian Vettel's record for youngest-ever pole sitter (albeit for a sprint).
22:19 The top ten in full: 1 Antonelli; 2 Piastri; 3 Norris; 4 Verstappen; 5 Russell; 6 Leclerc; 7 Hamilton; 8 Albon; 9 Hadjar; 10 Alonso
22:17 Let's not forget that Kimi Antonelli had never driven around Miami until earlier today.
22:17 George Russell filtered down to P5 amid all of that. Piastri shaded teammate Norris to take second, while Verstappen will start the sprint from fourth.
22:16 Now here come the two McLarens - neither can dethrone Andrea Kimi Antonelli! He's on Pole for tomorrow's sprint!
22:15 Lewis Hamilton rounds the final corner and slots in two tenths behind Russell. Verstappen is going even quicker and usurps Russell by half a tenth - but here comes Antonelli!!
22:14 Verstappen is a tenth up on Russell after the first sector.
22:13 Lewis Hamilton, who took Pole for the Shanghai sprint, is the next challenger to start his lap.
22:12 Everybody is now on track except for George Russell. Verstappen may be going for another lap here, but Russell will not be going again.
22:10 Verstappen delivers a 1:27.0, which Russell pips by a couple of tenths. Eight drivers still left to post laps, but Mercedes are well in this fight.
22:08 Only Verstappen and Russell have taken to the track. The rest will presumably go for one lap right at the end.
22:06 Max Verstappen is the first man out on red-striped soft tyres for SQ3.
22:03 Lando Norris ended that session quickest ahead of Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri.
22:02 Eliminated in SQ2: 11 Hülkenberg; 12 Ocon; 13 Gasly; 14 Lawson; 15 Sainz
22:01 Hamilton jumps up to sixth, within a tenth of his teammate. Carlos Sainz had a huge lock up down at T11 and abandoned his lap. Disappointing for Williams, who have looked quick all day.
22:00 Everybody appears to be improving so it's all still up in the air, but all eyes on Hamilton here. Sainz is out.
21:59 Nico Hülkenberg goes seventh in his Sauber, pushing Lewis Hamilton into the bottom five.
21:58 Pierre Gasly thwacks the wall in his Alpine at Turn 16, but still goes eighth. Verstappen goes quickest.
21:57 Just over two minutes remaining in SQ2 and only eight drivers have set a time. Lewis Hamilton is slowest of those who have already been round, but seven drivers, most notably the Williams of Carlos Sainz, need to put a time on the board.
21:55 On the face of it, Mercedes seem to be quite enjoying these medium tyres, but George Russell comes on the radio to suggest quite the opposite. One team who definitely isn't enjoying these tyres is Ferrari, with Leclerc and Hamilton in sixth and eighth respectively.
21:54 Antonelli just nips ahead of Verstappen, while Russell is just a shade slower than the Red Bull. Lando Norris crosses the line to pull a couple of tenths on those three, before Piastri lowers the bar by another fraction.
21:53 Max Verstappen lays down a benchmark of a 1:27.729.
21:52 Everybody is on new medium tyres again before we move to softs for SQ3.
21:50 The remaining 15 drivers are re-emerging for SQ2. The fastest ten will make it through to fight for Sprint Pole in SQ3.
21:48 A mistake by Yuki Tsunoda at the end of his first, and ultimately only, flying lap, is what saw him fail to post a time goof enough for SQ2.
21:46 Jack Doohan is fuming with his team over the radio for the way in which they handled that session. A number of drivers were unable to get a clean lap in at the end, and indeed several failed to get a lap in at all.
21:45 Eliminated in SQ1: 16 Stroll; 17 Doohan; 18 Tsunoda; 19 Bortoleto; 20 Bearman
21:44 Russell and Antonelli lead a Mercedes 1-2 at the end of SQ1, while the Williams of Alex Albon continued to show pace in P3. Meanwhile at the other end...
21:42 Yuki Tsunoda has failed to make the chequered flag to start his lap and will not improve on P17. Oliver Bearman likewise missed the opportunity to improve on P20.
21:41 All the drivers trying to get their second lap in early are going to encounter a lot of traffic, as the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll is discovering.
21:40 The bottom five with just under three minutes remaining: Doohan; Tsunoda; Bortoleto; Bearman, Hadjar
21:39 Every driver has now set a time except for Isack Hadjar, who had a lap deleted for exceeding track limits.
21:38 Mercedes are the last of the leading teams to put times on the board and Kimi Antonelli goes quickest of everybody. George Russell, meanwhile, slots in in fifth.
21:36 Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have placed their Ferraris second and third respectively, until Lando Norris goes fastest to bump everybody down a place.
21:34 A 1:27.953 is the early benchmark from the Dutchman, half a second clear of Alex Albon.
21:33 World Champion Max Verstappen, who missed yesterday's media day to attend the birth of his daughter Lily, will be the first man to set a lap time.
21:30 Green light at the end of the pit lane and the drivers begin to make their way out on track. Everybody is on the yellow-walled medium tyres, which are mandatory in SQ1.
21:29 Practice earlier today did not really tell us an awful lot, except the fact that Oscar Piastri looks right at home and that the two Williams boys look very quick. Oliver Bearman had a shunt with just a couple of minutes remaining, meaning most drivers didn't get a run in on soft tyres.
21:27 Lewis Hamilton dominated the first sprint event of the season in Shanghai on one of the few occasions he has looked at home in his Ferrari thus far. Oscar Piastri, who was the fastest in this weekend's only practice session, as well as teammate Lando Norris and new father Max Verstappen, will most likely be today's contenders for Pole.
21:26 Hello and welcome along to Qualifying ahead of tomorrow's sprint race in Miami!
