Gresini and Ducati were uncertain about the future of the partnership for some time. It remained unclear whether the agreement would continue as the team looked toward the 2027 season. This collaboration had already delivered significant success, including the arrival of Marc Márquez on the bike, his move to the factory team, the one-two finishes by the Márquez brothers in the 2025 season and the standout performance of Fermín Aldeguer as Rookie of the Year.
However, with the announcement of the two new riders for the 2027 season, it has also been confirmed that Ducati will be extending its partnership with Gresini on a multi-year contract.
Team boss Nadia Padovani said of both signings via gresiniracing.com: “From next year a lot will change, but the essence of the BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP Team will remain the same.”
She added: "We will continue to race together with Ducati Corse, which over the years has proven to be a reliable and winning partner, and we are very happy about this. Last but not least, at the end of the season we will say goodbye to Alex and Fermin, two riders who have given a lot to our team, both in terms of results and human relationship. To them goes our thanks and best wishes for the future.”
Álex Márquez
Márquez joined the team in 2023 to ride alongside Fabio DiGiannantonio, who is currently with the VR46 team. He was instrumental in bringing his brother, Marc, to the team in 2024, a move that also helped facilitate Marc's promotion to the factory squad, where he recently extended his contract after winning the championship last season.
He achieved a career-best second place in the premier class championship standings last season while competing against his brother. Despite being hampered by injuries this season, he has bounced back effectively, as seen at the Dutch Grand Prix, where he charged through the field to finish in fifth position.
Fermín Aldeguer
Aldeguer has been in discussions to join the VR46 team, though the official announcement remains pending and plans are subject to change.
Since moving to the premier class in 2025, the rider has frequently battled alongside Marc and Alex Marquez at the front of the pack, a performance that contributed to winning the Rookie of the Year title at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
While results this season have not matched those levels, consistent progress was evident throughout the first half of the season before the upcoming summer break.
Incoming riders
On July 2nd, the Gresini Racing team announced that Joan Mir from the factory Honda team and Daniel Holgado from Moto2 will join their lineup for the 2027 season. It is rumored that Fabio Quartararo is set to take Mir’s spot at Honda following his departure.
Holgado currently rides for the CFMoto Aspar team in Moto2 and has already secured three race wins across all championship categories. Alongside him, Mir brings significant experience, including 15 podiums and one MotoGP championship title and seeks a resurgence following two challenging seasons defined by frequent DNFs and penalties.
Stay tuned for more updates from the other teams, and don’t miss the upcoming action at the German Grand Prix on 12th of June at 1:00 PM BST.
