Alpine have confirmed that Pierre Gasly has signed a contract extension that will see him remain with the team until at least the end of the 2028 Formula One season. The announcement was made ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, cementing the French driver's place as a central figure in the team's plans for the future.

The new agreement extends Gasly's previous contract, which was due to expire at the conclusion of the 2026 season. By securing a further two years, the deal demonstrates a shared commitment between the driver and the French manufacturer.

Gasly joined the Enstone-based squad at the start of the 2023 campaign. Since his arrival, he has recorded two podium finishes, including a third-place finish at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix and another at the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Despite the team's overall struggles with performance in the current season, Gasly has been a consistent point-scorer, securing all of Alpine's points to date.

The contract extension aligns with Alpine's preparations for the new technical rules, which will come into effect in 2026. This period will see the team switch to customer Mercedes engines, a strategic change aimed at improving competitiveness. The decision to retain Gasly as their lead driver underscores the team's belief that he is the right person to guide them into this new era of the sport.

Flavio Briatore, Alpine's Executive Advisor, has spoken publicly about the importance of building a strong and competitive team. He has expressed his confidence in Gasly's attitude, dedication and talent, stating that the driver has been an "immense asset" during a difficult phase. The agreement to continue their partnership for the long term suggests a positive outlook for the team's trajectory.

While Gasly's future is now secure, the identity of his teammate for the coming seasons remains unconfirmed. With Franco Colapinto currently occupying the second seat on an interim basis, Alpine will need to make a decision on their second driver as they look to build on the foundation set by Gasly's long-term commitment.
