The No.6 Porsche Penske Motorsport car driven by Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Matt Campbell have had their fourth place in Hypercar qualifying revoked, due to being underweight during the session.
Kevin Estre set a Porsche best laptime of a 3:23.3, to get the factory 963 into Hyperpole on Thursday. However it was later found that the car was run under the minimum weight requirement.
The No.6 will now start the race on Saturday from the back of the Hypercar field, in 21st. The No.009 Aston Martin will move up to 15th and take the Porsches place in Hyperpole.
This adds to the woes for the No.6 Porsche on Wednesday evening, which suffered a tyre blowout in FP2, causing extensive damage to the car.
The crew will attempt to claw back through the field on Saturday at the start of the race, at 14:00 local time.
It's a shame when an organization that you've always believed was trustworthy gets caught cheating one race after the other as much as Penske has lately. You tend to lose your respect for everything they've accomplished.
