The test, conducted around the Circuito Nuevo Andalucia, saw the famous actor-cum-endurance racer drive the Mahindra Formula E machine in mixed conditions, with images from the test revealing wet weather running too.

Mahindra Racing's Nyck de Vries was also present during the test, assisting Ajith Kumar in getting settled in and up to speed with the Mahindra Formula E machine.

"Ajith Kumar tests Mahindra Formula E Gen2 car at Andalucia Spain. Stay tuned for more updates" wrote the 54-year-old on his Instagram feed on Monday.

Kumar is no stranger to the racing scene, though. After a one-off appearance in the local Formula Maruti championship in 2003, he took part in the Formula BMW Asia championship, finishing the season in 12th. He also raced in the 2010 FIA Formula Two championship, being one of the three Indians on that grid.

Kumar resurfaced in the racing world once again in 2025, making headlines when he entered his eponymous team in the Dubai 24 Hours from January 10 - 12 at the Dubai International Autodrome. Driving alongside Cameron Macleod, Matthieu Detry and Fabian Duffeux in the 992 class, the No. 901 entry finished third in class.

AK Racing also takes part in the Creventic 24 Hours series, racing across multiple rounds in Europe. The team also has ambitions to enter the Asian Le Mans Series later this winter, in the LMP3 class. Kumar himself tested an LMP3 car earlier in the week around Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, assisted by former Indian F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan, and fellow racer Aditya Patel.

Mahindra Racing mentioned their pleasure to host the Tamil actor, and racing driver, a celebrity, sharing their thoughts on their latest Instagram post:

"When one of India's biggest stars met it's World Championship racing team.

It was our pleasure to welcome @ajithkumarracing to Andalucia to test our GEN2 car earlier this week, with expert guidance from @nyckdevries," the Indian manufacturer said.

The Formula E collaboration by Ajith Kumar will certainly bring plenty of eyeballs, with the actor's vast fanbase cheering him on, as he goes about his racing journey.

Mahindra Racing to launch 2026 Formula E challenger

The Indian manufacturer also revealed the launch date for its 2026 Formula E car, with the date being set as Tuesday, October 14, 2025, when they pull the covers off the car that will take to pre-season testing and Formula E's Season 12.

Mahindra Racing haven't formally announced their line-up for Season 12, but are expected to retain their incumbent duo of Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries for the upcoming Formula E campaign.

Pre-season testing for Formula E's Season 12 kicks off on October 27, running for four days, before the all-women Formula E test on October 31. The upcoming 18-race Formula E campaign kicks off in December, with the São Paulo E-Prix on December 6, in what is set to be the longest Formula E campaign.
