This week, the Supercars circus head to Sandown Motor Raceway, Victoria for the second last race weekend of the season. The top seven drivers will be dropped to just four qualifying drivers for the Drivers' Championship title.
Earlier in the week, Kai Allen, Jack Le Brocq were each disqualified from a practice session; chaos already installed for this weekend.
Top Ten Shoot Out took place this morning, seeing Matthew Payne top the time sheets with a 1:09.025, Cameron Waters pushing hard only to get second position - 0.0796 behind the fastest lap of the day.
On the second row, Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown make up the grid behind; action sure to happen immediately as stakes rise for the championship this afternoon.
Fans can expect major chaos on race start; a short 16 metre dash to turn 1 with huge launch speed will play major havoc in who is desperate and ballsy enough to get ahead.
79 laps will be accompanied by two compulsory pit stops with refuelling - strategy game will resurface fot this weekend, ensuring a thrilling time at Sandown as a single-seat race.
As it happened
Waters and Payne are even through the start, at Turn 1, Payne gets ahead as the field find their new placements; Turn 4, the rear of the field just making it through without contact.
Lap 4, Kostecki gets an easy move on Brown - the move looking almost too easy, flaring speculation surrounding Triple Eight and their set up for the No.888 Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang.
Lap 5, Zach Bates gets the job done on Andre Heimgartner, giving James Golding a quick spot grab, each slowly moving towards the top ten.
Lap 7, Cooper Murray excessively forces Thomas Randle off the track, gaining himself a bad sportsmanship flag for poor driver conduct.
Lap 12, towards the rear of the pack, a five-car battle errupts between Rylan Gray, Jobe Stewart, David Reynolds, Cam Hill, and Macauley Jones. Meanwhile, up ahead, Aaron Cameron's car has ignited in a large fire - Cameron bailing out of his No.3 Blanchard Racing Team, Liqui Molly Blahst Mustang immediately.
A safety car comes, pit lane chaos breaks out. Payne looks to be unsafely released, he attempted to squeeze in between Kostecki and Brown; losing his five-second lead.
Cameron's engineer, Daniel Veronese, has suggested to Riana Crehan in a pit-lane interview, that the incident was expected to originate from the PDM's or, that fuel had gone to the exhaust, one of the two is strongly believed to be the cause of the horrific inferno.
Lap 20, racing goes green after Cameron's car has been reduced as a fire hazard and the track has been cleared.
Brown goes mega defensive on the restart, Kostecki going with him and looking to find a way around the No.888 Red Bull Ampol Racing.
Lap 21, Chaz Mostert pushes hard with Bates, pushing him wide - Bates not standing down and giving the attitude back. Mostert slightly hits the concrete barrier within his defence, the right rear making contact.
Further down the pack, the racing goes wild with desperation and thrilling driving ahead and pushing the limits for 15th position.
Lap 25, Kostecki inches on Brown, the pair having contact side-by-side, a wild off-road moment. Payne looking eager behind the pair as Brown puts the elbows out, sending his Mustang back down the inside at Turn 4, regaining the race lead.
Lap 29, the two leading the pack are back at it; Lucky Dog podcast co-host's go for the lead again, Kostecki looking impatient and aggressive for Brown's spot.
Lap 30, Brown is told eyes forward, let Kostecki use up his tyres - Brown looks under pressure, a four-way battle slowly creeping up to his rear as Kostecki and Brown slow each other up - Kostecki goes down the outside, Brown fighting - Payne and Waters approaching the leaders getting a front-row show.
Lap 32, Randle has a left-rear flat tyre, going into the lane to get a replacement.
Lap 33, Kostecki eases up on his pursuit, before gaining on him through the corners.
Lap 34, Feeney defends off Anton De Pasquale confidently, pushing on to close in towards Waters' rear-end, making the battle a soon to be five-way battle.
Lap 35, car No.2, Ryan Wood receives a 15-second time penalty for earlier contact.
Lap 36, Kostecki shoves the No.17 Shell V Power Mustang down the inside, Brown not done as he shoves himself back down the outside - Brown spun around and stalled for a considerable amount of time; the indecent a sole-cause.
Brown appears on the radio sounding very apologetic as he apologises for the incident, impacting his finals run ahead of the Grand Finale later this month. He is now in 21st position.
Lap 38, stewards have imposed a time certain race finish due to the chaos of the day - Walls is in the wall, beached in the gravel pit, a safety car making its second appearance.
Teams make their way into the lane, taking tyres, refuelling. Yet again, Penrite Racing team fumble their pit jump, sitting in third again - a surprising new leader is found in Waters, the team doing well with their previous long stint.
Green flag racing resumes on Lap 41, Waters gets a run, Kostecki refusing to let the gap go, Payne and Feeney following suit.
Lap 43, Waters and Kostecki go very wide off course, each other way - giving an opportunity to the rest behind - Mostert and Feeney taking the opportunity to pounce; back in the pack, Hill hits the wall heavily but is able to get going again at Turn 4. Brown looks to be the cause - a penalty likely coming his way.
Lap 45, Mostert shuts the door on Feeney, not letting him pass just yet, the pair battling for third; the leaders fighting ahead as Kostecki gives a bit of hip and shoulder on Waters, helping him gain the space to make a move.
Lap 47, Feeney pushes past, pushing Mostert wide slightly, getting the move done and in third, eyes forward ahead to Waters. The rear of the field gets spicy and push hard.
A 15-second time penalty has been dished to Brown, making his day even worse after his part in spinning Hill's Toyota Supra.
Lap 49, Payne gets past Mostert, the No.1 Toyota Supra not putting up much of a fight for his position.
Lap 58, Feeney goes underfire from Payne - the battle looking fierce, Feeney defending very well against the fastest car of the race thus far. Feeney just hangs onto the exit of Turn 10 - Payne sliding in front of car No.88.
15-second time penalty has been served to David Reynolds for a pit lane infringement; he was seen impeding Heimgartner.
Lap 60, Brown looks to be trying to regain positions today, making a move on Randle, putting himself in 15th position - still yet to serve a time penalty.
Lap 62, Feeney is passed by Mostert - the No.88 Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang still a few seconds ahead of De Pasquale, while chatter further ahead begins on Waters' radio; the team deciphering whether to let Payne pass to ensure a strong finish.
Lap 64, Payne passes Waters for second position, 15 laps still up ahead for Payne to gain on Kostecki; commentary thinking Payne could have the potential to end Kostecki's hope to be locked in for the final round of the year.
Stewards imposed a 5-second time penalty for car No.10, Bates, after excessive track limists were hit nearing the end of the race.
Nine laps to go, Turn 4 sees De Pasquale claim Feeney's fifth position, the No.88 Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang looking like it's struggling out there.
Bad sportsmanship flags have been given to Feeney and De Pasquale for excessive track limits; the two championship contenders now needing to be cautious to reduce penalty likelihood.
Five laps to go, Feeney drops to 12th position, cutting his finals hopes narrowly short; the only hope looking to be those ahead with penalties.
Four to go shows Waters underfire from Mostert - these two have a horrid past of always connecting with one another; Waters short cuts Turn 5, suggesting he's in trouble. Mostert gets past, Waters going wide after alleged contact.
Mostert readdresses the incident - Waters left-rear wheel looks to be badly buckled as Kostecki locks himself in for the last round of the year; the last lap looking to be alight with hope and dismay for many in the paddock.
