On the front row, Broc Feeney and Matt Payne set the tone for what was to come in Race 16.
Behind them, Jayden Ojeda surprised fans by qualifying in third at the Top Ten Shootout, with Anton De Pasquale joining him on the grid in fourth.
It was set to be a thrilling Race, with Feeney showcasing his speed and intentions for the afternoon by clocking a 0:51.3790 on pole.
As it happened
Racing got chaotic very early on, with pushes and shoves from the front to the back of the pack. Feeney and Payne stuck together like glue through it all during the opening laps.
By Lap 9, Will Brown and De Pasquale were locked in a fierce battle. Brown went off course momentarily, scooping up some dirt, while three other cars looked eager to join the fray. Upon re-entering the track, Brown came head-to-head with Brodie Kostecki.
Lap 17 marked a pivotal point in the 84-Lap Race, with Kostecki’s No.1 Camaro suffering a fuelling issue; the compulsory pit stop reportedly failed to administer all the required fuel. It was a nightmare weekend for the reigning champion. Lap 37 saw Chaz Mostert close in on Kostecki, squeezing him off the racing line and causing a significant drop in pace.
The horror continued for car No.1 on Lap 66, striking a braking issue while Thomas Randle and Ojeda had a brief squabble. More chaos unfolded at Turn 4 on Lap 68 between Brown and De Pasquale. It was a close call as De Pasquale went deep under braking, while Brown's No.87 Camaro on cold tyres braked earlier than anticipated.
Jackson Walls had a hairy moment in front of the pitlane, with his battle against Cameron Hill going wrong after a slight touch to the rear by Walls, though it resulted in a notable recovery for the rookie.
By Lap 71, Feeney had loosened the stakes, making his final pit stop from a comfortable lead ahead of Payne. Meanwhile, Jack Le Brocq suffered an engine misfire issue, one that had resurfaced from earlier in the weekend.
After a dominant stint on Sunday in Tasmania, Feeney brought his No.88 Camaro home to secure the win, extending his gap to 7.136 seconds despite having to navigate backmarker traffic smoothly in the closing stages. Feeney made a point to showcase his confidence this weekend, flying past the chequered flag to win Race 16 and extend his championship lead.
The young gun has now equalled Australian motorsport legend Dick Johnson with 12 all-time Race wins, entering his most dominant era thus far.
The Tasmanian stop on the calendar marked a massive weekend for motorsport in Australia, with 31,801 fans in attendance at Symmons Plains Raceway, a 12.5% increase from last year. This building momentum in Supercars is a tribute to the talent on and off the track. Catch Round 6 in Darwin from Friday, 19th June 2026.
