Wehrlein wins thrilling London E-Prix and takes lead of the championship

Pascal Wehrlein has taken victory in Round 16 of Formula E Season 12, converting his pole position to the win. He won by a significant margin and was able to secure the lead of the Driver’s Championship with just one race left.
The German driver cried pole position and was joined by teammate Nico Müller on the front row. Throughout the race, it was clear that the German driver was the one to beat, pulling out impressive gaps throughout the race.
As it happened
Wehrlein was able to charge forwards and maintain his lead, building a gap to second-placed Müller. Tactically, Müller looked to be holding Evans and the other title contenders back.
Lap 5 saw Evans make a lunge for second position but was to far back to pass the Porsche of Müller. Behind him, Dan Ticktum was fighting the Jaguar equally as hard.
Lap 6 saw a yellow flag fly and become a full-course yellow for Zane Maloney’s stricken Lola. Maloney’s car sustained a broken drive shaft and had potential contact with Edoardo Mortara.
When racing resumed, Wehrlein’s lead was significantly smaller but as the lap progressed, he was able to steadily pull away.
Down in 15th, Rowland seemed as though he was struggling. Additionally, Lucas di Grassi was handed a 5-second time penalty for over speeding under a full-course yellow.
Evans closed in on Müller continually but was unable to pass the Swiss driver.
On Lap 16, there was a near-miss between António Félix da Costa and Jean-Éric Vergne but more significantly, Mitch Evans took Pit Boost. When he emerged, he took his Attack Mode in an attempt to best the Porsche drivers.
One lap later, Müller took Pit Boost and was able to emerge from the Pit Lane Ahead of the New Zealander. However, just a few corners later Evans was able to pass the Porsche.
A second full-course yellow was thrown as the other Lola of Lucas di Grassi hit the wall. Race leader Wehrlein was able to capitalise on the stoppage, taking his Pit Boost and losing less time.
Müller was able to overtake Evans but the two drivers were in ninth and tenth positions.
On Lap 28, a three-way battle for the podium occurred between Ticktum, da Costa and Jake Dennis with the latter almost hitting the wall. Eventually, Dennis got the best of da Costa an muscled his way into third place. The Briton also pushed past Ticktum and was able to slot into second place.
Towards the end of the race, Evans was able to overtake Muller and move up to eighth place but at the front of the field, da Costa and Ticktum continued to battle. Many drivers closed in on the battle before Ticktum made a brave lunge. Ticktum, Mortara and Sébastien Buemi made contact with the Cupra Kiro driver dropping from fourth to seventh.
On Lap 39, Wehrlein won his third race of Season 12, ahead of Dennis and da Costa.

Wehrlein’s win shows how much race strategy and energy management can shape Formula E, especially with Attack Mode and Pit Boost adding another tactical layer. Great win for Wehrlein converting pole into a dominant victory while taking the championship lead with only one race remaining makes the timing huge.
