Zak O’Sullivan to leave Super Formula early; Tokiya Suzuki joins Team Impul for season finale

Team Impul have confirmed Zak O’Sullivan’s early departure from Super Formula. The Brit has signed for Envision Racing for the 2026-27 Formula E season. As part of his Formula E duties, he has to take part in the pre-season test sessions held at Jarama, which coincide with Super Formula’s season finale at Suzuka.
Toyota junior and 2025 Japanese Formula 4 champion Tokiya Suzuki has been confirmed to take O’Sullivan’s place at Team Impul.
O’Sullivan joined Super Formula with Kondo Racing last year, but had a difficult rookie season, finishing in the points only twice. He joined Team Impul this year. The historic team had been struggling for the past few years, scoring no points in 2025 and downsizing to one car due to financial reasons this season.
Expectations were not high for O’Sullivan, but the Formula 2 graduate persevered. In Round 6 at Fuji, he grabbed his maiden pole position and Team Impul’s first since 2022 in a wet qualifying session and earned his maiden podium finish that race.
Most recently, he clinched two consecutive podiums at Rounds 9 and 10, also held at Fuji and was the highest-scoring Toyota driver that weekend. He is currently fifth in the standings with 54 points, and Team Impul are seventh in the teams’ standings despite being a one-car operation.
O’Sullivan is expected to take part in the final three races of the SuperGT season, with neither of them clashing with the Formula E calendar.
As the Formula E-bound driver is entering the final leg of his time in Japan, he will be leaving with three wins and a pole position in Super Formula and in SuperGT, a win and at least four podiums in GT300, along with a title challenge in both seasons.

His replacement for the Super Formula season finale, Tokiya Suzuki, has been a driver quickly rising up the Toyota junior ranks. Suzuki won the F4 Japanese Championship in his second year of trying in 2025. He also finished second in the standings in the Formula Regional Japanese Championship the same year.
This year, he finished fourth in the Super Formula Lights Championship, with three wins and five podiums to his name.
He also debuted in Super GT’s GT300 class and made headlines earlier this year for having his local driver’s license revoked, which forced him to miss Round 2, the Golden Week Special at Fuji.
Despite the setback, the rookie finished on the podium in his return to the series and has delivered solid performances since.
Super Formula’s season finale, Rounds 11 and 12, will take place from the 20th to the 22nd of November at Suzuka. The next round of Super GT is this weekend at Autopolis. The Formula E pre-season tests will take place at Circuit del Jarama from the 16th to the 20th of November.
