Arrow McLaren has announced that long-time Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) driver Scott Dixon will be joining their IndyCar team for 2027 to drive full-time alongside Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O'Ward. Ryan Hunter-Reay also joins the team for the second year running to make an appearance at the Indianapolis 500.
This announcement comes off the back of much speculation and the announcement made by Dixon and CGR on July 2nd of this year that Dixon would not be returning to the team he spent 25 seasons with for the following year.
"Scott Dixon recently informed the team that he will not be returning in 2027," said the statement made by CGR team owner Chip Ganassi. "Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years. Together we've shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization. Because of everything we've accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that.
"We respect that he's chosen a different path and wish him nothing but continued success. Scott will always be a special part of this team's history, and we're grateful for everything we've accomplished together.
"Our focus now is on finishing the season strong with the No. 9 PNC team while also preparing for the future at Chip Ganassi Racing."

2026 marks Dixon's 25th year racing with CGR, and the New Zealander may see it as the perfect ending point to what was an incredibly strong career with this decorated team. With CGR, he took six IndyCar titles, 32 pole positions, 57 race wins and 141 podiums (his record of 143 IndyCar podiums is the most podiums of any driver in the history of the series).
“Joining Arrow McLaren in 2027 is an exciting next step in my career," said Dixon in the announcement released by the team. "It was a big decision for myself, for my family, and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak and Tony are building there. As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special; his spirit and grit are still very much rooted in that team, and I’m excited to carry that on.”
Now about to turn 46, Dixon joins Arrow McLaren for 2027, as the team has been making a bid for an Indianapolis 500 win. The reigning Indy 500 champion Felix Rosenqvist has also been announced to be joining the team off the back of his win at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May.
Rosenqvist rejoins McLaren after spending the 2021-23 seasons with them, where his best finish with the team was a second-place finish in Portland in 2023. Rosenqvist has spent the past three seasons with Meyer Shank Racing, and took the 2026 Indy 500 (his first career IndyCar win) with the team.

“I’m excited to return to Arrow McLaren next season," Rosenqvist's statement read. "And reunite with Pato, of course, and also Tony, Zak and the crew and engineers I worked with previously. There are a lot of familiar faces, and we’ve got an incredible lineup with Scott joining and Ryan returning for the 500. I think our collective experience will be a huge benefit. I’ve still got work to do to finish this season strong, but I’m looking forward to what’s to come at Arrow McLaren.”
Long-time McLaren driver Pato O'Ward expectedly completes the team's full-time lineup, leaving Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel officially without seats for 2027. Lundgaard leads the team in points so far this season, he sits third in the championship with two race wins and five total podiums. He'll be one of the most likely candidates to replace Dixon in the No.9 CGR car for next year.
Siegel just picked up his second top-10 result of the season at Mid-Ohio, and currently sits 20th in the standings.
In less life-altering news, McLaren has included Ryan Hunter-Reay in their 2027 driver lineup, making a one-off appearance in the Indy 500. Hunter-Reay contested his first Indy 500 with the team earlier this year, where he finished 32nd after an early incident put him out of the race. His best Indy 500 result was a win in 2014, which came when he was driving full-time with the Andretti team. That means that in 2027, Arrow McLaren will be running three former Indy 500 champions in the race (and O'Ward, who has five top-five finishes at the historic race).
