Cassidy and Vergne to race for Citroën for Season 12

Citroën have signed a star driver line-up for Season 12 of Formula E in 2026, bringing onboard two illustrious names in Nick Cassidy and Jean-Éric Vergne for the upcoming Formula E campaign.

The New Zealander is entering his sixth season in the all-electric world championship and will pair this up with a drive for Peugeot in the World Endurance Championship. He will be teaming up with Vergne, as the Frenchman switching to the newest team on the grid, after a stint at DS Penske.

Cassidy made his Formula E debut for Envision Virgin Racing in season seven and went on to take two podiums in his rookie year. He remained with that team for another two seasons, with the highlight being helping them claim the Teams' championship title in season nine while taking runner-up honours for himself.

For season 10, Cassidy switched to Jaguar Racing alongside fellow Kiwi racer Mitch Evans. The dream team went on to secure both the Teams' and Manufacturers' title for Jaguar while Cassidy was 3rd in the Drivers' championship behind teammate Evans.

His season 11 campaign got off to a slow start with Jaguar clearly struggling compared to their rivals, but he was able to end the season on a high by winning the final three races and snatching the runner-up spot from season 10 champion Pascal Wehrlein.

His partner at Citroën, Vergne, will turn a new chapter in what has been an illustrious Formula E career. Two world championships over eight seasons with the DS-affiliated brand, the Frenchman has been the cornerstone of the success in black and gold.

Vergne has started 144 Formula E races, winning 11 and finishing on the podium 38 times, and is one of the few names to have raced in the series for over a decade. He has cemented himself as one of the OG's on the grid, alongside the likes of Envision Racing's Sébastien Buemi and Lola Yamaha ABT's Lucas di Grassi.

While he has not won a race since the Hyderabad E-Prix in 2023, Vergne continues to remain a consistent force in Formula E, having finished in the top six in each of the past three campaigns in the Gen3 era.

Season 11 saw the Frenchman finish sixth in the ladder, scoring 99 points, with two podium finishes in Shanghai and Berlin. His haul helped DS Penske net fifth in the Formula E standings in 2025.

Vergne, like Cassidy, is also set to take to the World Endurance Championship with Peugeot in 2026, continuing his double stint in Formula E as well as endurance racing.

The sea change in the team leaves former Maserati drivers Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hughes without a drive for 2026, just yet, as both drivers will now be eyeing up seats elsewhere on a Formula E grid that is rapidly filling up with every passing day.
