Crucial change to Formula E's Monaco's Season 13 event announced

Formula E have announced an important change to the dates for next year's showpiece Monaco event, which will now take place on May 1 and 2, 2027, brought forward by two weeks to avoid an overlap with the World Endurance Championship.
The decision was confirmed on Tuesday, with Formula E officially announcing the decision after early speculation had grown over the date of the big event in the Principality, shortly after Formula E's Gen4 calendar reveal in June.
In addition, Formula E also announced a massive five-year extension for the Monaco E-Prix, set to run all the way until 2031, towards the end of the upcoming Gen4 cycle.
Formula E's star-studded event in the Principality had commenced as a biennial race on a shortened version of the track back in 2015. Today, the event has grown into a double-header, marking the staple of Formula E's calendar today.
“There is no stage in motorsport quite like the Circuit de Monaco, and we are thrilled to bring the next era of electric racing to the Principality," commented Formula E's Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo.
"David Coulthard’s iconic GEN4 test-run at our last event set the ultimate precedent for what will be another showstopping weekend. With heightened speeds, even more overtaking, and intense wheel-to-wheel action, this jewel-in-the-crown double-header promises to be our best yet.”
“We are pleased to announce that the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM) and Formula E have agreed to extend their partnership through 2031," read a statement by the host body of the Monaco E-Prix.
"This extension underscores the Principality’s central role in the evolution of electric mobility and ensures the continuity of the Monaco E-Prix has become a highlight of the international calendar.
"The ACM looks forward to continuing this journey alongside Formula E and contributing year after year to Monaco’s global prestige.”
Despite the highs of a Gen4 test runs and the Formula One paddock even making an appearance at the Monaco E-Prix, organisers have had to tread with caution when it came to the scheduling of the event next May.
With several drivers sharing grid space in Formula E and the World Endurance Championship (WEC), both championships have worked closely to address any concerns and avoid events falling on the same weekend.
However, in this case, the 6 Hours of Spa had been pencilled in for May 15 on next year's WEC calendar. The move held the potential to sway driver contracts in Formula E, with Envision Racing's Sébastien Buemi and Mahindra's Nyck de Vries in the spotlight heading into the silly season.
Had the calendar remained unchanged, both drivers would have been forced to miss four rounds of the Formula E campaign to fulfill their endurance racing commitments, alongside the Shanghai E-Prix in July, which is set to be the penultimate weekend of the year.
However, for both drivers, the impact has been softened, as they would now miss only two races of the season in July, with the clash in May averted. Yet, it remains to be seen if Buemi and Envision would continue as a pairing into the Gen4 era next year, as Formula E heads into a critical point of its silly season.
Formula E's calendar still remains at 21 rounds for the upcoming campaign, although questions still linger over the season-opening double header in Jeddah at the end of 2026, due to regional clashes and the ongoing US-Iran war.
