Championship leader Dennis 'sad' to see the end of Formula E's GEN3 era following title finale in London

Formula E championship leader, Jake Dennis, is locked in a battle to become world champion this weekend at the London E-Prix. Following the end of this weekend's London E-Prix, the GEN3 Formula E cars will be retired, an era in which Dennis has seen great success.

Home hero Dennis leads the Formula E championship by just two points, with Jaguar's Mitch Evans behind, followed by Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein and Nissan's Oliver Rowland, all within 14 points of Dennis.

The title fight has come down to the final double-header weekend, and with a maximum of 58 points to score, anyone inside the leading four could realistically win the championship. A total of nine drivers are still within mathematical contention coming into the final two races, although it is unlikely that anyone outside the leading four will claim championship glory.

Speaking to DIVEBOMB's Owen Bradley about the pressure to win the title in front of a home crowd, Dennis stated: "There's always pressure in every race that I'm in. Right now, my aim is to try and stick to what I've been doing the past three rounds, it's been working really well. Keep sticking to my routine, my process and working through the items, what I need to work on. If we can do that, then there's no reason why we can't be competitive."

Dennis managed to finish on the podium at the last two races, both in Tokyo, and leads the title heading into London, his home race. With an impressive run of form, Dennis has emerged somewhat as the championship favourite against rivals Mitch Evans, Pascal Wehrlein and Oliver Rowland.

The Briton has been very successful in the GEN3 era that started in 2023. He went on to become a Formula E world champion in GEN3's debut season, and has gone on to secure numerous victories and podiums in seasons since, despite being unable to win the championship again.

However, coming into the final weekend of the 2025/26 season in London, Dennis stands as the championship favourite, leading by a slim margin of just two points. This will also be the final race weekend for London's Excel venue that has hosted the London E-Prix since 2021. The Excel Arena will be replaced by Brands Hatch from next season onwards.

When asked if he will miss the GEN3 era, Dennis stated: "You always miss an era where you're successful in it. I think I've been one of the most successful drivers in the GEN3 era. The car was good to me, it suited my driving style, I can only guess what GEN4 will be like. It will be sad to see the GEN3 car go, but ultimately everyone is excited for GEN4 now, to see the new car and how quick it is."

GEN4 promises to deliver faster race cars to the Formula E championship, with Formula E driver, Dan Ticktum, describing the GEN4 car as "The first car that, if we're being brutally honest, can be taken seriously."
