22 drivers head to Imola this weekend for the fourth round of the 2025 Formula 2 season. Some of them are looking to improve on the good start they’ve had to their year, and others are playing catch up.

One driver looking to improve on a good start is PREMA Racing’s Gabriele Minì. Five races into his rookie season, Minì has scored points in every single race so far. He’s one of only four drivers who have done so this year. But of those four drivers, he’s the only one whose point-finishes have not included a trip to the podium.

Speaking about his start to the year ahead of the weekend at Imola, Minì said: “Well to be honest I am quite satisfied for the moment with my performance from the beginning of the year.

“In testing we showed a really good speed and to be honest till now I'm very happy about my qualifying laps. The one in Melbourne was pretty good. I think the best so far was the one in Jeddah probably.

“Also in Bahrain, even though the result doesn't always show it, but I think I'm quite happy with the job done there. And in the races I think there is always a bit you know different conditions and different things are going on. I think so far we pretty much maximized whatever we had, you know.”

Minì emphasised the importance of consistency, something he’s achieved with his results so far: two seventh places finishes, two ninth place finishes, and one sixth place finish.

“As I said, the importance is to try and be consistent,” he commented. “In the races where we had the car to be in front, we were in front like in Melbourne. In the races where we were struggling a tiny bit more, we still scored the points. Little but still a few points, which is better than nothing.

So for now I'm quite satisfied. Of course we have as always as a driver and as everyone is doing around us we have to always try and work to improve otherwise I mean there's no point to be here. But yeah, for the moment I'm quite satisfied with it.”

Minì still has yet to crack the top five this season, though he sits tenth in the standings with 12 points. Two places behind him is Invicta Racing driver Roman Staněk, a driver with two top five finishes this season in the opening Sprint Race in Melbourne and in Jeddah.

Staněk is in his third season of F2, though he missed out on the final three rounds of last year due to funding issues. His two top five finishes have so far been his only points-scoring results of 2025.

For the Czech driver, putting together a clean race weekend is where he’s struggled.

“Yeah so what I would like to improve is to put a good race weekend together,” he said. “Because there's always been something. You know, in the races or with the tire degradation or also in the qualifying in Jeddah for example, I had a very good speed in Jeddah in free practice and also in the first part of quali but then unfortunately I touched the wall and I lost a lot of confidence.

“My steering wheel was not straight so then I started quite backward and then obviously with such a high level in Formula 2 because the level is very very high, some people don't realize how high it is, it was quite hard for me to move forward. So yeah, just to have a clean weekend.

“And the positive aspects, as I said I'm very happy about the team that I have around me because the guys here are pushing me forward. They've been very supportive. And also overall with my performance, maybe the result doesn't show it so good, but as I said I just need one good clean weekend to show the proper speed.”

The F2 grid is back at it again this weekend in Melbourne, where Minì will be looking to continue his run of finishing in the points and Staněk will be hoping for a clean weekend without any issues.
