Dan Ticktum takes second pole position in a row for Monaco E-Prix

For the second race in a row, Dan Ticktum has secured pole position. The Briton beat António Félix da Costa to secure the top spot for the second race of the Formula E Monaco double header.

AS IT HAPPENED- Qualifying in Monaco


In Free Practice 3, it was Porsche's Nico Müller who set the pace. Yesterday's winner Nyck de Vries was down in seventh after setting the pace and topping all of the sessions except Qualifying during Round 9.


Group A


The first stage of qualifying featured Mitch Evans, the current championship leader. Yesterday's pole sitter, Ticktum, was also featured as well as yesterday's race winner.


From the start of the session, Evans looked to be on the pace, as well as the Cupra Kiro of Ticktum. The two Andretti cars of Jake Dennis and Felipe Drugovich set the fastest times.


Ticktum became the first driver to set a time in under 1:30, with a 1:28.492. Whilst other drivers set times that were getting faster as the session progressed, nobody could come close to the Briton.

Group B


Group B featured notable names, including four former world champions.


As soon as the session began, many drivers were setting impressive times. The fastest lap was being traded between Pascal Wehrlein, Oliver Rowland and António Félix da Costa. Rookies Pepe Martí and Joel Eriksson also topped the timing sheets.


However, it was DS Penske's Taylor Barnard who finished the session in first with a 1:28.545.

Quarter Finals


The first of the quarter finals saw Evans take on Edoardo Mortara.


In all three of the sectors, Mahindra's Mortara was strongest and won the first quarter final by 0.221 seconds.


Ticktum took on Drugovich in the second quarter final. Initially the Andretti driver looked faster however in the final sector, Ticktum managed to shrink the gap and take the win.


Quarter final three saw two champions battle. Vergne took on Rowland and the battle was close. As the sectors progressed the two drivers had a very close gap, but it was ultimately Vergne who would go on to progress to the next stage.


The last of the quarter finals saw Jaguar's da Costa take on DS Penske's Barnard. The two drivers had some of the closest battles of the session, with da Costa taking the win by one thousandth of a second.

Semi Finals


Mortara took on Ticktum in the first of the semi finals, the Cupra Kiro driver was fastest in the first two sectors and the impressive pace managed to secure him a spot in the finals.


Two champions battled in the second semi final. Vergne took on da Costa and the battle was impressive. da Costa managed to edge his way to the front, beating Vergne by 0.015 seconds.

Final


After yesterday's E-Prix, the battle between Ticktum and da Costa promised to be good.


Both drivers have colossal amounts of experience in the principality, and this was evident from the start of the weekend.


As soon as the session began, Ticktum was on the pace. He set fastest sectors than his competitor and seemed to find a competitive edge, with him getting extremely close to the wall on the approach to the Nouvelle Chicane.
