Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing announced Tuesday morning that Jay Frye, former IndyCar President and long-time industry executive, has joined the team as President. He replaces Steve Eriksen, who has served as the team’s CEO since the start of 2023.

“First, I would like to thank Steve Eriksen for all of the work he did for us, particularly at a critical moment in time for the company, and we certainly wish him the best in his next endeavor,” said Team Co-Owner Bobby Rahal. “I’m very pleased to have Jay Frye join the team as president of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

"I’ve known him since his arrival on the INDYCAR scene in 2013 and have spent a lot of time with him and think highly of his character and his passion for the sport. I look forward to working with him in the future to take RLL to the place we all want it to be.”

Frye’s experience in the motorsports industry spans over three decades, starting with leading the motorsports Sponsorship for Valvoline in the early 90s, in the heyday of Mark Martin’s partnership with the company. He would also go on to contribute to MB2 Motorsports, Red Bull Racing’s Cup program, and Hendrick Motorsports.

Although, Frye is best known for his recent tenure with the IndyCar Series. He first served as the chief revenue officer of Hulman & Company in 2013, before being promoted to Series President in December 2018.

Under Frye, IndyCar and NTT’s partnership flourished, moving from series sponsor to title sponsor in 2019. He headed the introduction of the Universal Aero Kit in 2018 and led the partnership with Red Bull Advanced Technologies to develop the aeroscreen for the 2020 season.

Now it’s time for a new challenge for Frye. His role oversees the team’s three-piece IndyCar program and the team’s involvement with BMW, competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

“Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has a tremendous history of success, both on and off the track,” Said Frye. “I am very proud to be joining the dedicated and talented team of people at RLL. RLL has the foundation, infrastructure, and an incredible commitment of continue being successful well into the future."

Frye hits the ground running next weekend, as both RLL’s IMSA and IndyCar efforts will be on full display on the Streets of Long Beach.
