Carlos Sainz signs multi-year Williams F1 contract extension through 2027

Carlos Sainz has officially committed his long-term Formula One future to the Williams F1 Team, signing a new multi-year contract extension that locks in the Grove-based outfit’s driver line-up through the 2027 season.

The announcement lands just twenty-four hours after teammate Alex Albon penned his own extension. Consequently, Williams locks down one of the most experienced pairings on the grid ahead of the sport's landmark regulation cycles and the team's upcoming 50th anniversary campaign in 2027.

Sainz initially joined Williams in 2025 following his departure from Ferrari, quickly establishing himself as an indispensable technical anchor within Grove. His debut campaign with the team yielded immediate dividends. The Spaniard secured his maiden Williams podium with a calculated third-place finish in Baku, later backing up that silverware with a Sprint podium in Austin and another rostrum appearance in Qatar. Together, Sainz and Albon propelled Williams to their strongest constructors' championship finish in nearly a decade.

However, the 2026 campaign presented severe aerodynamic and power unit hurdles across the grid. Despite the growing pains of adapting to new technical constraints, Sainz’s decision to commit long-term underscores his unwavering belief in the capital investment, facility upgrades, and engineering leadership orchestrated by Team Principal James Vowles.

With more than 370 Grand Prix starts, over 1,600 championship points, and 31 podiums shared between them, Sainz and Albon offer Williams invaluable stability. Sainz also remains in rare historic company alongside Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell as one of only three drivers to race for Williams, Ferrari, and McLaren.

Speaking on the renewal, Carlos Sainz expressed absolute faith in the trajectory of the Grove outfit:
