Joshua Dürksen wins the final F2 Feature Race of 2025

After taking his maiden Formula 2 Feature Race victory in Abu Dhabi in 2024, Joshua Dürksen repeated his heroics in 2025, taking the final race victory of the season for AIX Racing after starting eighth on the grid.

Roman Staněk delivered a sublime performance in qualifying to claim his second pole of the season, topping the timesheets just 0.087 seconds ahead of Jak Crawford, who joined the Czech driver on the front row of the grid. Lining up close behind in third was newly crowned F2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli, whose best lap time was a further 0.047 seconds slower than Crawford’s.

Only 21 cars would see the five red lights go out for the final time in 2025, as Laurens van Hoepen suffered issues with his Trident machine on his way to the starting grid.

Penalties also started to roll-in before the race began, with Crawford being handed a 10-second stop-and-go penalty for a starting procedure infringement.

As it happened

Staněk led the field off the line and into Turn 1, whilst his teammate was quickly demoted to fifth on the road with both Dino Beganovic and Joshua Dürksen passing the Italian on the first lap.

Also immersed in a lap 1 battle was Saturday Sprint winner Arvid Lindblad, who went wheel-to-wheel with the PREMA Racing duo of Gabriele Minì and Sebastián Montoya. A close moment for the Colombian saw him flirting with the barriers but managing to return to the tarmac.

Crawford peeled into the pit lane as lap 2 began, dropping to the rear of the field before Alex Dunne made contact with Victor Martins, sending both drivers into a spin before Cian Shields ploughed into the Rodin car. With all three drivers having had their races brought to an early end, Dunne's woes were compounded when he was dealt a 10-second penalty for causing a collision.

Racing resumed on lap 6 with Rafael Villagómez immediately leapfrogging Luke Browning in the hunt for precious championship points.

Staněk and the leading cars on supersoft tyres made their mandatory pit stop as the remainder of the field set out on their eighth tour of the circuit, leaving Dürksen to create a gap to his competitors in order to remain in contention for the race win.

The virtual safety car was called for on lap 10 as Montoya came to a halt on track, becoming the fifth driver to retire from the race before the VSC was upgraded to a full safety car.

Racing resumed once again with Fornaroli leading the field into lap 15, running wide through the final corner in his haste to escape the chasing pack.

Dürksen was left to fight Staněk and Dino Beganovic for the net race lead, needing to pick off those on the alternate strategy ahead and create a gap to his competitors. Meanwhile, both Hitech drivers were handed 5-second time penalties for speeding in the pit lane, marking a blow to their chance at winning the Teams' championship.

The Paraguayan made a critical pass on Martinius Stenshorne to claim seventh from the remaining Rodin driver on lap 19.

On lap 21, Fornaroli entered into battle with Lindblad once again, briefly ceding the race lead to the latest F2 graduate before Lindblad cemented his position at the front of the field on the next lap.

Crawford was next to make his way past Fornaroli before the Invicta driver bit back, reclaiming second on the road. Crawford made the move stick a few laps later, pulling out of DRS range by lap 27.

Meanwhile, Beganovic and Staněk remained hot on the chase, with Nikola Tsolov becoming the next driver for the trio to clear.

Tsolov made his way into the pit lane on lap 29, reuniting the net podium-sitters on the road and swapping out his medium tyres for supersofts.

Race leader Lindblad was joined by Fornaroli in the pit lane on lap 31 whilst Minì closed in on Staněk, threatening to knock the pole-sitter off of the podium.

With the final pit-stops coming to an end, Lindblad and Crawford scrapped for the final points-paying position whilst Dürksen led the race with a gap of over 1.5 seconds to Beganovic behind.

It would be Dürksen lifting the winner's trophy for the final time in 2025, joined on the podium by Staněk and Minì after Beganovic's penalty dropped the Swedish driver to fourth.

Invicta Racing also retain the Teams' championship honours, followed by Hitech and Campos. Jak Crawford holds onto second in the Drivers' championship with Richard Verschoor signing off on the 2025 season in third.
