At the recently concluded FIA World Motorsport Council (WMSC) meeting, Formula E's final calendar for the upcoming Season 12 received its final confirmation. The calendar features 17 races, with one undecided race for May 30 dropping off the calendar revealed by Formula E earlier this June.

The calendar for Season 12 features 17 races at 10 different venues, including two different venues across China, in a major shake up for the sport's final season of the Gen3 era.

Formula E's Season 12 kicks off at the famous Sambadrome in São Paulo on December 6, 2025, before the paddock officially breaks for Christmas and New Year, returning for another single-header weekend in Mexico City on January 10, which will also be the championship's 150th race.

The series then ventures into the United States, for its annual stateside venue, this time around a modified version of the Miami International Autodrome on January 31. Rookie Free Practice will also be held before Free Practice 1 for the Miami E-Prix, on Friday, January 30.

The season's first double header will be the Saudi Arabian weekend of the year, on February 14 and 15, as Formula E continues its journey at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the second year running.

A month's break follows, before the paddock reunites for the first European weekend of the year, as Formula E heads to the Circuito del Jarama, Madrid, for the venue's first-ever E-Prix on March 21. This will be followed by the Formula E Rookie test, which shifts from its traditional venue in Berlin, to the Spanish circuit.

Formula E then heads to Berlin for its annual weekend at the Tempelhof Circuit, with the double header slated for May 2 and 3, before the prestigious Monaco E-Prix double header on May 16 and 17.

With the Jakarta weekend slated for May 30 now standing cancelled, it leaves a month-long break until the first Chinese race weekend of the year. The port town of Sanya on the Hainan Island returns for its first E-Prix since Season 5 in 2019, hosting a single race on June 20.

Shanghai then hosts its now traditional double header at the Shanghai International Circuit, slated to take place on July 4 and 5.

Tokyo moves from its slot in May to a new July slot, marking the penultimate weekend of the year, taking place on July 25 and 26, before the season finale in London on August 15 and 16 marks the end of Season 12, as well as the Gen3 era of Formula E.

At 253 days, the season is one of the longest in Formula E's history in terms of days, while it is officially the longest in terms of races.

Regulation changes for Season 12

Formula E will also introduce new regulations for Season 12, in a bid to simplify races where the Pit Boost will be used, and to encourage "unpredictable and dynamic racing," in the words of Formula E's Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo.

During Formula E's qualifying sessions, the time limit for Group Qualifying, when drivers will be divided into Groups of 10, will be reduced to 10 minutes, from 12 minutes. Additionally, the mandated requirement to set a lap time in the first six minutes has been removed.

Further revisions have been made to the timings of duels, in order to shorten the sessions, and bring them closer to the one-hour limit. Currently, Formula E's qualifying sessions stretch on for 80 minutes.

Some other changes have been made to Pit Boost races on double header weekends. During races when drivers will have to take the mandatory Pit Boost stops, they will only have to activate attack mode once in the race. During regular races without Pit Boost, drivers will have to activate two hits of attack mode.

Furthermore, the penalties applied to drivers for not completing their attack mode has also been removed. These penalties were on display during the Miami E-Prix earlier in 2025, when several drivers received penalties for not completing their allocated attack modes.

Additionally, Formula E has also removed paternity leave and maternity leaves from the cost cap for the series, in order to enable a more inclusive and diverse environment within the championship's confines.

Formula E's Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo spoke on the confirmation of the latest calendar for Season 12.

"Season 12 marks another important evolution for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship - from the return to Sanya strengthening our presence in China, to sporting and financial regulation updates that enhance competition and reinforce our commitment to inclusion and equality.

"The introduction of maternity and parental pay exclusions from the cost cap is a milestone for Formula E, ensuring that teams can fully support their people through key life moments without compromise. At the same time, updates to our sporting format and the continued expansion of our calendar reflect Formula E’s mission to deliver the most exciting, progressive racing season yet.”

Pablo Martino, Head of Formula E at the FIA, too spoke on the news.

“We are pleased to validate the full 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar. This unprecedented 17-race schedule blends the very best of long-standing Formula E venues and new additions in dynamic global cities, including a second event in China, which is such a relevant market for the series’ manufacturers and the country where it all began back in 2014.

“In close collaboration with the championship, we also implement minor yet significant modifications to the sporting and financial regulations, targeted at making Formula E even more exciting and inclusive. With the official pre-season test – including a full day dedicated to women drivers – racing rapidly into view to kickstart Season 12, there is a great deal to look forward to over the upcoming 10 months.”

Formula E kickstarts its Season 12 in style, with pre-season testing kicking off on 27 October, culminating with the all-female Formula E test on October 31. Tune in to DIVEBOMB for more coverage, as the season kicks off!
