Alpine Formula One Team Statement: "We welcome the decision made by the FIA to deem our Right of Review as admissible following the final classification of last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. As a result, the Stewards have rescinded the two five-second penalties imposed on Car #10, which reinstates the team's third place finish.

We would like to thank the FIA and Formula One Management for its transparency and co-operation throughout the Right of Review process and for reaching this decision.

The team's focus is now very much on this weekend's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix and striving for the best possible result with both of its cars."

FIA Final Verdict

Following BWT Alpine F1 Team’s submission of a Right of Review from the FIA following the penalties handed to Pierre Gasly after the Monaco Grand Prix, the FIA has now overturned both five-second penalties, reinstating his original third-place finish.

In its final ruling, the Stewards confirmed: “We determine that Car 10 did not exceed the speed limit of 60 km/h in the pit lane.”

As a result, Gasly’s penalties were rescinded and his race result restored to P3, with championship points adjusted accordingly.

The Frenchman crossed the line in third after a standout drive through the streets of Monte Carlo, only to be classified seventh after receiving two separate five-second penalties for pit lane speeding.

In a brief statement released following the race, Alpine had confirmed it had requested a Right of Review regarding the penalties imposed on Gasly.

The FIA's review process allows teams to challenge a decision if they can present a significant and relevant new element that was unavailable to the stewards at the time of the original ruling. The governing body will now assess Alpine's submission before deciding whether the case should be reopened.

However, celebrations were short-lived.

Following the race, stewards initially determined that Gasly had exceeded the pit lane speed limit on two separate occasions during the Grand Prix. The infringements resulted in two five-second penalties, adding a total of 10 seconds to his race time.

As a consequence, Gasly was dropped from third to seventh in the final classification, costing him a place on the podium and significantly reducing Alpine's points haul from the weekend.

The penalties immediately became one of the major talking points following the race, with BWT Alpine F1 Team opting to pursue the matter through the FIA’s review process, which has since resulted in both penalties being overturned and the original result reinstated.

Gasly left frustrated after podium slips away

Gasly did not hide his disappointment after learning that the penalties had cost him what would have been Alpine's first podium finish of the season.

"It hurts a lot," he said after the race. "We did everything right on track and crossed the line in third. To lose it afterwards is very difficult to accept."

The Frenchman had spent much of the afternoon battling inside the top 10 before capitalising on the race's many incidents and strategic opportunities to secure a place in the top three. His drive was widely regarded as one of his strongest performances since joining Alpine.

Gasly added that the result felt particularly harsh given the effort that had gone into executing the race, describing the podium as a reward the team had earned through its pace and strategy around one of Formula One's most challenging circuits.

Alpine Team Principal Steve Nielsen also praised Gasly's performance, backing the team's decision to seek a review.

"Pierre drove an exceptional race today," he said. "We believe there are grounds to revisit the circumstances surrounding the penalties and that is why we have submitted a Right of Review request."

What initially appeared to be a frustrating end to one of Alpine's strongest weekends of the season has ultimately been reversed. Gasly's performance demonstrated the team's pace and potential around one of Formula One's most demanding circuits, and following the FIA's review process, the Frenchman has officially been restored to third place in the Monaco Grand Prix classification.
