The manager of the reigning MotoGP world champion has spoken for the first time regarding the rider's ongoing contract dispute with Aprilia.

Martin's manager, Albert Valera, believes the rider is a free agent for the 2026 season, stating he "executed his clause he had in the contract."

Martin, who had signed a two-year deal with the Aprilia factory team 12 months ago, joined the team fresh from his 2024 World Championship win, but has suffered various injuries, resulting in the Spaniard only seeing one checkered flag in the first 10 rounds of the 2025 MotoGP season.

What's next?

Valera seems confident that they're now free to explore other options, specifically an offer to join Joan Mir at Honda on a three-year deal, saying, "Honda is an option for next year as well."

Stating that they might be forced to "defend his freedom," suggesting there may be more legal disputes to come from the saga.

Aprilia insists that Martin is contracted to the team for the 2026 season, putting out a statement after FP2 saying: "Our position has not changed since the press release on Thursday, 22nd May. Aprilia Racing representatives won't give any further comment on the matter."

Martin is expected to return to action before the summer break in two races' time, following a one-day private test beforehand.
