Joshua Dürksen and Théo Pourchaire team up at Citroën for Madrid Rookie Test

Season 12 debutants Citroën Racing have opted for a dynamic young line-up for the upcoming Madrid Rookie Test, signing Formula 2 race winner Joshua Dürksen alongside Rookie Test driver Théo Pourchaire for the one-day test.

Both Dürksen and Pourchaire serve as development drivers for Mercedes' F1 operation. The Madrid E-Prix will be the former's first time in a Formula E car, while the latter is set to take part in his second rookie event for Citroën, after the Rookie Free Practice session in Miami in January.

Dürksen currently competes in his third F2 season, and recently moved from AIX Racing to reigning champions Invicta Racing alongside F3 champion Rafael Câmara. The Paraguayan driver recently took victory in the F2 sprint at Melbourne, kicking off a season with victory for the second year in a row.

Dürksen is a five-time race winner in F2, and has completed both his seasons in the top 10 of the drivers' standings. He also boasts a wide range of single-seater racing experience, having competed in the F4 UAE Championship and FRECA on his way to Formula 2.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Citroën Racing for the rookie test in Madrid. Formula E is a championship completely new to me, so to have the chance to drive the GEN3 Evo car and work with such an experienced team is a fantastic opportunity," Dürksen expressed, speaking on the opportunity to drive a Formula E car for the first time.

“The goal for the day is to learn as much as possible: about the car, the systems and the way a Formula E team operates. It’s a completely different challenge compared to other single-seaters, especially with the energy management and the technical side, so I’m going to be paying close attention. I want to thank Citroën Racing for the trust, and I’ll do everything I can to make the most of this opportunity.”

Pourchaire, meanwhile, has a wealth of experience across multiple single-seater racing championships. The 2023 F2 champion and former Sauber F1 junior has previously tested for Maserati's Formula E team, and even ventured stateside to drive for McLaren's IndyCar outfit in 2024.

The Frenchman also started one Super Formula race that year, before making the switch to sports car racing in the European Le Mans Championship - and competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025.

Pourchaire was also announced as Peugeot's hypercar driver for the 2026 season, driving the No. 94 hypercar alongside Malthe Jakobsen and Loïc Duval.

“It’s great to be back with Citroën Racing for the rookie test in Madrid. The experience in Miami earlier this season was extremely positive for me. Driving the GEN3 Evo car for the first time and working with the team gave me a really good understanding of how different Formula E is compared to other single-seater championships. Since then, I’ve been looking forward to getting back in the car and continuing that learning process," Pourchaire said, speaking on the opportunity to test for the team once again.

“The focus in Madrid will be to build on what we started in Miami, support the engineers with the development programme and keep improving my understanding of the car, the tyres and the energy management. I’m very grateful to Citroën for the opportunity and I’m excited to get back behind the wheel.”
