After yesterday’s announcement that Enzo Deligny would be moving from Prema to Van Amersfoort ahead of the 2026 F3 season, PREMA announced Deligny’s replacement will be Mexican driver José Garfias.
He previously made a reserve appearance in F3 last year at the Spanish Grand Prix weekend for AIX Racing, filling in for the injured James Hedley. He finished 24th in the sprint race and retired in the feature race.
The 21-year-old made his single-seater debut in 2018, competing in the Mexican F4 championship, where he raced for two seasons. He moved to Europe in 2021, competing in the GB3 Championship full-time, where he finished 17th.
A year out followed and when he returned to racing in 2023, he finished fourth in Eurocup-3. Another year in the series came with less success, before he moved to Euroformula Open, where he has won three times.
It’s safe to say Garfias is excited to start his first full season in F3:
“[I’m] ready to take on this new challenge with PREMA in F3. It’s a big step in the right direction for my career. Racing in F3 is something that I have been working towards for the last few years, and doing it with PREMA means a lot to me. Very thankful for everyone who is making this possible, and grateful to Prema for giving me the opportunity to prove myself on a bigger stage. I’m ready to make the most of it.”
Prema team manager Goffredo Pirro is looking forward to this season with a rookie driver in Garfias, albeit one experienced at a high level:
“We are happy to welcome José for the season. Even though he will be competing full-time in the series for the first time this year, he has a good amount of experience in Eurocup-3 and Euroformula Open, so I think he will quickly adapt himself to the new environment and get positive results.”
Garfias will join the Italian outfit for pre-season testing in Catalunya next week.
