The Bangalore native has already served as the team's official reserve since Season 10, competing in rookie tests at Berlin in 2024, and later in the Rookie Free Practice at Jeddah in 2025. Maini also took part in the Berlin rookie test in 2025 for the team, driving alongside fellow Formula 2 compatriot Dino Beganovic on the day.

Maini currently participates in F2 for the DAMS outfit, racing alongside Andretti's Reserve and Development driver Jak Crawford for the team. The Indian driver currently sits 15th in the F2 standings, the highlight of his campaign being victory from start to finish in the Monaco sprint, his second F2 victory.

According to sources, Maini is also set to dovetail his Formula E duties with an F2 drive for the third season in a row, as he is set to move to ART Grand Prix's F2 set-up for the upcoming campaign, although there has been no confirmation yet.

Maini has set Formula E time sheets alight in the past, most notably when he topped the Rookie Free Practice session at Jeddah earlier in 2025. He also secured second in the morning session and third in afternoon session of the Berlin rookie test, showcasing a strong turn of pace in the Mahindra M11 Electro.

"Ready to represent India on the world stage. Welcoming @kmainiofficial back to the team as our reserve driver for Season 12!" wrote Mahindra Racing, in their latest Instagram post.

Mahindra Racing are set to reveal their livery for Season 12 on Tuesday, 14 October 2025. The team are set to continue with their existing driver line-up of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara for the upcoming Formula E campaign.
