The 2026 running of the Indianapolis 500 will officially field the customary 33 drivers after the recent additions of Jacob Abel and Katherine Legge.

Last week, Abel Motorsports announced that they would be running a Chevrolet-powered car, driven by former IndyCar driver Abel. Despite competing in the full 2025 season, Abel has yet to actually race in the 500 after he failed to qualify in last year's race.

“I am excited and grateful to be able to return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to have a shot at the Indianapolis 500,” Abel said after the announcement. “It’s been a lifelong dream to compete in that race, and to have the opportunity to do it with Abel Motorsports and Chevrolet makes it even more special.”

“The Indianapolis 500 is the greatest race in the world, and the teams that compete reflect that. Having won races and competed for championships with Abel Motorsports over my whole career, I am very confident in the program that they put together.

“It is going to be amazing to share this experience with not only my actual family, but the team that has become my family over the years. The preparations have been ongoing for some time, and I’m eager to finally get on track.”

Abel Motorsports' announcement last week made 32 cars set to take part in the 500. This morning, HMD Motorsports and AJ Foyt Racing announced that they would be partnering to field Legge's entry, the No.11 car sponsored by e.l.f. cosmetics. This year will be Legge's fifth Indy 500.

“We worked incredibly hard to be back at this year’s Indianapolis 500, and I don’t take a single moment of it for granted,” Legge said. “I’m beyond grateful to e.l.f. Cosmetics for believing that women deserve to take up space in every arena – including this one. Together, we’re proving that when you invest in a woman’s dream, there’s no limit to what she can achieve.

“It honestly feels like Christmas being back at the ‘500.’ Every time I return, I gain a deeper appreciation for what it takes, not just to compete here but to earn the opportunity to be here in the first place. I’m reminded that I’m a small part of this enormously storied event.”

With the month of May coming just around the corner, excitement is growing for teams, drivers and fans alike with a full field now officially set to compete this year.
